Living in Thames Ditton

Can anyone offer advice on TD? What it’s like to live in? Schools? Transport links to Kingston? Does it have a community feel/friendly? Etc
I know the actual village is quite small but due to its proximity to Hampton court and Kingston does it strike a nice balance?
TIA

In terms of schools, Hinchley Wood is very desirable but it operates a feeder school system. You’d need to get yourself into very specific catchments.

I would think about your commute/daily travel routines - the Hampton Court bridge is a major bottle neck.

Watching this as it's also on our list of potentials for move in next couple of years. It does look v pretty. Have you also checked out Surbiton or Esher? From reading up on TD, consensus seems to be that the commute is better from those 2 other places

I live in Surbiton and know TD very well. It does have a lovely feel, great pubs and picturesque. As a PP said, Hinchley Wood is very desirable as a secondary and does operate a very strict feeder policy.

Would you be commuting into town or by car? There are only 2 trains per hour up into town and they are slow, but you're pretty much guaranteed a seat as it's only the second stop. Traffic is awful around there, as the PP said.

Thames Ditton is lovely! I love living here. It's got a great community vibe and feels semi rural even though it's really close to Kingston for shops and 30 mins to Waterloo. If you move to the Long Ditton side of Thames Ditton (other side of Portsmouth Road but still KT7) it's just a short bus ride or 20 mins walk to Surbiton - brilliant train links.

The primary schools round here are all excellent and Hinchley Wood secondary has been 'outstanding' for decades.

Should also add, Hampton court on the doorstep is great, you can walk there from TD. Same with Bushy Park. Really easy to get to Kingston - 10 mins in car/bus or there's a cycle path the whole way.

Calling the schools ‘excellent’ is a bit generous.
