Moving to Beaconsfield from London Pros / Cons !

Hi guys,

Currently living in Chiswick London with DH and DD that's 1.5 years old. Hoping to have another child in the next year or two.

We are looking to move out of London for space, community etc. Would to live on edge of a town with restaurants, bars and a bit going on but have a larger garden etc. Easy access to London is important for DH who is in 3 days a week with his own business and would either train or taxi. Beaconsfield seems to tick a lot of boxes and is within budget but we really don't know anybody there which makes it tricky to make the jump!

Would love to know the pros and cons of living there, type of people, atmosphere from new young families perspective and older ones with teenagers as I feel this next move will hopefully be our last and where we make base for the next 20 years.

We would hopefully educate privately for junior school and then either grammar or private for senior. I would love to hear any views good and bad! :)

Which side of Beaconsfield? The new town or the old town? Loudwater side or the Amersham side? Any idea of which roads?

I have worked there as a nanny for 20 years so have seen it all from every aspect and all walks of life if you can shed some light on which part you’re thinking of.....

Or if you tell us your budget we can help with which areas are better?

You’ve got The Golden Triangle (in estate agent talk) which is Gregories Rd, Cambridge Rd, Burkes Rd, Stratton Rd et al within the New Town which sees properties of £2m upwards to £7m. These are anything from 1/3 to about 1 and a quarter miles walk to the train station, primarily new builds and most have double yellow lines outside their properties now to stop commuter traffic parking.

The main ‘High Street’ within walking distance has absolutely everything you’ll need - chemist, supermarkets, dry cleaning, gift shops, Post Office.

Getting from one end to the other and around this area at rush hour can take an age in the car, especially at school pick-up time.

The Old Town consists of mainly listed properties and getting from the High Wycombe end to the M40 B’field Junction and vice versa at rush hour via the A40 will take forever.

School-wise you’ve got Butlers Court and Beaconsfield High, Beaconsfield Secondary (AKA Bekky Sekky)

Privately you have Davenies or High March in Beaconsfield but you could venture out to Godstowe or Pipers Corner in High Wycombe, Maltmans in the Chalfonts, or St. Marys in Gerrards Cross at the appropriate ages.
