Persimmon Homes

i was thinking about buying one of these as it's being built and I'm so sick of DIY and doing up old houses.
However, I've been put off by the reviews on the internet.
Does anyone have any experience of a Persimmon home?

Don’t touch persimmons with a 10 ft barge pole. They are also part of Charles Church I think, just to bare in mind

I had a new persimmon home in 2007. In terms of them as a company, they were ok. They did our snagging list quickly.

We bought a house that was already built. I would not buy one off plan

at the edge of our town (outing if you live there!) they built at the top a of the hill - local comment: this must be the only place in the UK that the road floods at the top of the hill! the ground drainage wasn't checked properly to see if it could cope - they all blame everybody else's drainage but its a bit of a coincidence that we have never had the road so badly flooded - goodness knows how the people in the houses got into the site!

Recently bought new build. Had the choice of permisson, bloor and Cala. Permisson always look cheap, there's just something naff about their finish, even the premium ones. Bloor was a middle ground as Cala were a lot more expensive. Went with bloor as the layout and finish was good but fixtures and extras look cheap. Would have gone Cala but the estate as a whole had really small gardens, better build quality imo though. Ideally, I if I buy new build again I'll look at Redrow, especially their heritage range.

They’re not built properly according to a builder friend of ours that warned us off when we were last in the market.

RougeVinEtFromage · 08/12/2019 14:13

My DH is a building inspector with NHBC and he says you could pay him to live in a persimmons home.

madcatladyforever · 08/12/2019 17:40

Oh dear so the internet review are true, the guy trying to sell me one of the homes says it's all exagerated but then he would wouldn't he - commission.

Their report came out yesterday. Terrible.

strawberry2017 · 19/12/2019 18:56

I know a few people who have bought persimmon and everyone regretted it! Terrible builders - don't waste your money x

ShristmasChopper · 19/12/2019 19:02

I've just seen a news report about Persimmon homes. The photo looked perilous!! I will post it if I can find it again.

I've always been told that Persimmon are shit. They are building at a location local to me. Several house builders - David Wilson, Barratt and Wimpey are also building nearby but Persimmon are in my preferred exact location but I'm not even going to go and enquire due to the amount of awful things I have been told heard and read over many years.

Sleepyquest · 19/12/2019 19:11

Don't do it!!!
A few friends have bought them and have nothing but problems. I agree they look cheap too. Also, they don't give you anything. You even have to pay for them to paint the walls!

madcatladyforever · 19/12/2019 19:21

Well I just heard the site I was looking at is on a massive flood plane and the drainage they put in is not adequate at all.

To be honest be very careful buying any new build. New Builds properties are monetised to provide income streams for big corporations, pension funds etc.
It's not just poor build quality to worry about. It's about being financially choked for as long as you own (or part own) the property. You may as well just leave your wallet open for the management companies to dip their insatiable fingers into as and when they want.
Check out the National Leasehold Campaign Facebook group for the truth about new build estates.

Alpacathebag · 21/12/2019 13:35

@informedisgood not all new builds are leasehold. We bought new from Bellway in 2012 and our house is good quality, freehold and no land maintenance to pay as the roads and greens were adopted by the county council. It’s been ideal for us as we previously lived in an older flat that was a bit of a money pit with a leaking soil pipe we didn’t know about until our downstairs neighbours bathroom ceiling caved in, and an immersion heater that went tits up in the freezing winter of 2011. We couldn’t wait to get into a low maintenance new build!

@madcatladyforever do your research carefully. New builds when you find the right one can be wonderfully easy to live in!

Look at the news reports regarding Persimmons.

I would never buy one of their ‘houses’

Devereux1 · 21/12/2019 13:48

Who are Persimmon's shareholders?

What do they have to say about this scandal? They've gone very quiet.

Yep, I've seen that link. But the shareholders are hiding away. So is the boss who has been there for years and is responsible for this mess.
