Have anyone hired a removalist to pack (pregnant while moving)?

Currently 4 months pregnant, and looking to move in 1-2 months.
Thinking about hiring the removalist to help with the packing. I will still probably try to pack as much as I can, but will need help I think.

DH is willing to help out, but he prefers to just hire removalist to do the whole lot of packing and we will instruct them what to do (especially with the labeling), and we can do the un-packing slowly by ourselves.
Have anyone used it? What were your experience? Does it cost a lot and is it worth it in your opinion?

Thanks

do it!
our last move was including packing and unpacking.
it was almost stress free.

EyeDrops · 06/12/2019 19:11

Agree with previous posts, they're worth every penny!! Just make sure you keep separate things you'll want immediately. Labelling is basic but it's not too much work to open enough to find what you want. Or, again, ask them to label specific things.

Delicates were well catered for in my experience, bubble wrap/tissue paper and lightening speed!

only downside was that they packed the thermostat of the old house and we had to send that back.

dingit · 06/12/2019 19:16

Yes 18years ago, I was 37 weeks

MarshaBradyo · 06/12/2019 19:19

I couldn’t believe how fast and meticulous they were. Little pots of house stuff individually bubble wrapped. Strong boxes. I’d never move again without it.

zoemelb · 06/12/2019 19:24

stripeypillowcase that's funny, I will need to watch out for the thermostat, or big sign there.

Pregnant or not, I'd be hiring them! You'd be surprised how much of your stress they take away. Good luck with the move x

Erismorn · 06/12/2019 19:26

We pay for them to pack us every move. We've never had a breakage and some of our moves have been to different continents. Worth every penny!

zoemelb · 06/12/2019 19:30

thanks everything. I will definitely hire them to do the whole packing, and taking tips on putting the essential 1-2 days use aside.
DH likes the idea they will unpack the furniture, couch, bed for us too.

Do they offer unpacking service as well, by any chance? Grin

But definitely move anything you don't want packed into a defined area like the boot of your car

On one of our moves, they had a newbie working and sent him to the kitchen. They weren't best impressed when I had to break it to them that the first thing the newbie had packed was the kettle, all the mugs and the tea/coffee biscuit supplies I'd put to one side....

He also packed the grill pan handle for the oven (had to send it back) and parts of the kitchen blinds which were attached when he got there. Still worth every penny!

stripeypillowcase · 06/12/2019 19:33

yes they unpack as well. but that's usually an extra fee.

zoemelb · 06/12/2019 19:34

Erismorn how do they even take off the kitchen blinds, we will probably negotiate with the buyers to take the lights, shade etc. will need to watch out for them not to pack these common things.

Yes it’s expensive but worth it. We had a packing service when I moved when I was pregnant because I was pretty exhausted and useless and would not have been any help.

TheDuckSaysMoo · 06/12/2019 19:41

From memory unpacking was far more expensive. Packing is definitely worth it though. Sitting in your home the night before you move with nothing packed is weird feeling Smile.

ContinuityError · 06/12/2019 19:48

Packing will be probably be a couple of hundred quid (for a 4 bed house) and they supply all the packing materials too. Worth every penny.

Remember to empty bins otherwise your rubbish gets packed.

wowfudge · 06/12/2019 21:27

It's great value when compared to the cost of just having them move you. I did one move packing myself and said never again. They are far faster than you will ever be!

twilightcafe · 06/12/2019 21:30

Yes. And it was worth every penny.

MustardScreams · 06/12/2019 21:31

Oh yes they pack literally everything. Down to an old cotton bud they found under my bed Grin

xyzandabc · 06/12/2019 21:36

Absolutely, do it, you won't regret it. Don't pack anything in advance though and don't instruct them what to do. They are so quick and efficient you will not believe how all your stuff just disappears before your eyes.

If you have anytime beforehand, don't bother to stat packing but use the time to get rid of rubbish /stuff you don't need and declutter. They will pack absolutely everything, including the bag of rubbish by the kitchen door and the used tissue from the bedside table. So get rid first!

dreichXmas · 06/12/2019 21:39

Actually you might want to pack underwear and bedroom items first yourself ☺️

ineedaholidaynow · 06/12/2019 21:56

Another one telling you to use packers, but they do pack everything. They are like locusts.

They packed my DM's front door bell!

They pack everything very carefully, will use more packing material than you probably would.

Loladisco · 07/12/2019 16:22

We moved yesterday and I paid 30 quid for them to pack the kitchen. Absolute bargain!

MollyButton · 07/12/2019 16:26

Absolutely - what would take me up to a month to pack, they can do in a day!
I would never move without one again.

pontiouspilates · 07/12/2019 16:29

Worth every penny.

funnyfeeling · 07/12/2019 16:31

Oh I will let dp know that he now has a better job title Grin From the removal company point of view a packed by owner job always seems to come with a certain amount of dread. Having them pack it seems relatively cheap also.
