what is your dream house

i see so many times on here i saw or lost my dream house, when OH and i were looking our only criteria was price range, had to have a garage and in a decent part of the town we live in, we did see one that was better but seller messed us around, and quite happy with the little two bedroom semi with garage that we bought, (older couple no kids at home any more

so what is your dream home and how close did you get to buying the cream

Dreams change.

I always smile when I hear 'our forever house'. That six bedroomed, 3 acre pile might be a dream when you have a family still at home, but not as an elderly couple.

I live in my dream house. We moved here about ten years ago, children grown and gone.
I live in the middle of nowhere. My house is at the end of a half mile rough track. Its big, its rambling. I have land. I foster donkeys and keep goats and a couple of llamas.

I love my house, l love where I live, I love my life.

But, in the next five years, I will be moving to my next dream house. It will be in a village, close to shops, pubs, doctors and public transport.
It will have a small garden. Because I am getting old and dreams change.

We live in a lovely house, but our “dream house” would be the neighbours as it’s the same but with more bedrooms and we have lots of growing babies! Our houses are pretty, on a private estate, we have private field for the children to play out, tennis courts and a gym, lovely views over the countryside, best high school around, plenty of parking. I can’t see myself ever wanting to leave this estate x

Yes,agree. We had the six bed ( one acre though) dream house a while back when it suited us. Neighbours were a mile either side and a twenty minute walk to the seafront. Nobody in front of us for miles!
Rubbish now though when we’re retiring soon.
Back to convenient village with good access.

I "need" a large kitchen with range, I "need" large dining area (to seat 12+) living room, study, 3 double bedrooms, garage ideally double and must be detached, character cottage preferably but I'll accept newish or a plot of land and build my own. Luckily budget will be healthyish I'm a couple of years off needing to be disappointed

@faqs combination of circumstances reduncency and pension draw down we were able to go mortgage free my little house may not be my dream house but im happy and will be even happier when the work it needs doing is done, we are in a decent part of town in a decent street ten minutes from town in our sixties so getting close to not wanting a huge house that needs lots of maintanance

We've just moved into our (on paper) dream house. Georgian double fronted, 5 beds, 1/2 acre, drive, barn which can be converted for two extra bedrooms. On the edge of our village, next to open fields but only five minutes walk to the centre.
However, half of it has no heating 🥶 or electrics. Also have rats and bats. It's going to be a money pit and will take years to finish. Still love it though.

What we have but detached, less scruffy, longer driveway, extra bedroom and dedicated utility or laundry room. Unfortunately, the closest thing to that available would have been more than double our budget. The utility was the only one of those compromises that I regret q little. Other houses in budget compromised on bigger things, though.

I always thought my dream house was the old quirky house, probably converted from a different use, school house, old church, former police station sort of thing. In a village with a shop and pub but easy access to walks.

The location still stands, but my current rental has completely surprised me. We went for it because it was love at first sight for DH. Townhouse, architecture designed and modern. Multi-height ceilings with fancy lighting and window set ups. It's made me really consider light in a property (and not necessarily that more = better). The rooms characters change during the day. For example, we have a shaft in the side of the dining room by the wall that goes full height of the house. Above the ceiling height, it is peppered with lots of glass bricks. As the room and shaft is painted white, when the sun is in the right space, you can see light falling down this shaft in a beautifully diffuse way. For those few hours it's my favourite place in the house. And I love that it is so temporary and not artificial in any way. It's just there to be beautiful and that's a great thing! But the house generally is very easy to live in.

I've learnt that character doesn't have to mean old and modern doesn't mean harsh stark white everywhere (although most our walls are white, it isn't harsh at all). My new dream house is a non-townhouse, slightly bigger version of this, in a village.

I literally decided I wanted one of a specific type or house - there is about twenty on two roads and I leafleted in sleet and bought it through a private sale.
It's four floors, Victorian townhouse within catchment of a great secondary school and 30 secs to one of the nicest parks in London and five mins to a zone 3 station. As those that followed my thread will remember it has a room which will specifically meet the needs of my husbands hobby. It's also a complete money pit. We bought it at start of sept and we haven't lived there yet ..

The house I live in now is basically my dream home. I moved here from a 2 bedroom penthouse flat with roof terrace. It was such a big change, but if we ever moved it would be hard to match what we have now which is:
End terrace new build in a cul de sac with only 6 other houses.
Large open plan living kitchen dining room
3 bedrooms, all en suite
Large garden (for the dog, that’s why we moved!!)
Garage and driveway.
Fields behind the house for walking the dog.
Walking distance to high street with bars and restaurants and walking distance to city centre.

Mine would be a 4 bed detached house (spare room for my elderly parents and Pil to stay when they visit), friendly neighbours in a cul de sac on an estate with a park and friends houses you can walk to. Me and my DH had similar childhood homes in different areas of the country and we were both so happy, I wish we could afford to give our own children the same experience.
