I'm just about to move into a cute and very old cottage. 300 years old.
It has beautiful flagstone floors in the sitting room and the dining rooms but I know flagstones are cold so I was planning on putting down carpet and underlay and getting a woodburner.
The grade 2 listed property surveyor I hired said no carpet is advisable as it will rot. I can only have rugs.
In a way I'm pleased as the flagstones are too beautiful to be completely covered but I'm worried they are going to be freezing in winter even though I'm getting a woodburner put in.
Neither room is vast, they are a cosy size.
The local carpet shop does made to measure carpet binding so in theory I could have a natural covering like coir and get the edges bound so it's a bit warmer and a bit more substantial than a rug.
Does anyone else have flagstones, what do you do?
