Wickes flooring

Has anyone ever had a problem with wickes flooring? We've had flooring and when its come to be laid the boards are bent and not fit for purpose. We've rang and basically they are not interested. We had the boards a month prior before fitting because it's a new build and we wanted to be prepared. Flooring was stacked correctly in room temperature. They are using this as an excuse not to correct the problem. It is a very large quantity of flooring. We've spent a lot of money with them. For kitchen and bathroom also. Do we have a case to fight here?

I've only ever used their cheaper ranges, but yes, not good quality.

Yes definitely. If anything being stacked at room temp for a month has probably saved you with it bending. Maybe it wouldn't have if fitted.

Quality is probably crap. Have a look at the Golden ......... ( sorry can't remember the full name) laminate at Costco...has a 35 year warranty for do,estimating use and is really nice

We're buying a new build aswell and have been shopping around for laminate flooring for the downstairs.

We looked at Wickes, B&Q, United Carpets, Carpet Right etc...

In the end we've gone with a small local flooring shop as they were also stockists of the Swiss laminate that we had found elsewhere and at a fraction of the price compared to the inferior stuff sold in the larger chain shops.

I'd be fighting your case tooth and nail and demand a refund, take your business elsewhere.

I would say to everyone to stay clear of wickes! For some reason we thought going with a larger company would be easier. We were very wrong! We are having the same flooring throughout as we have pets so you can imagine there is a lot. We had someone come out from wickes and he agreed the flooring was faulty but said we had to go through the proper procedure of documenting it. So obviously we have no proof of him saying this. He has obviously gone back and said how large the problem is and they are fighting it. Saying it's a manufacturing issue. Which in that case is their issue. We are so worried. We need to move in asap so we are planning to go elsewhere for flooring but just need that money back! My parent has also just informed me there is scratches on the worktop that's been fitted today 😢😢😢

Can't help about the Wickes flooring, but would have thought you would have some redress as it isn't fit for purpose.

I got my wooden floor from this company www.doorsandfloors.co.uk/ which I would highly recommend. We bought Kahrs, and one I picked was on offer.

My brother, who is carpenter by trade, fitted it for me and he complained that it wasn't up to its usual quality as there were a couple of planks in the 25m I bought that had a slight bend. He is a perfectionist though, and the pieces were able to be cut and used for ends of runs. I had hardly any waste at all with mine.

I hope you manage to get a refund from Wickes.

If it is a manufacturing issue, the law is clear that they as the supplier is responsible. Start doing everything by email so you have a record. Demand they take it back and give you a refund. If they refuse require an explanation. You may need to visit CAB but frankly I'm astounded they are even arguing. At least as it isn't fitted they can't argue it is a fitting issue or the floor isn't level.

On a separate issue...when you do get to fitting it, you need to ensure your floor is level. If not, it won't sit and will bounce when you stand on it. Often floor need S self levelling compound putting down first and is critical. Oh and make sure it is fully dry before you lay boards

how new was this new build? How humid?

When was it plastered and decorated, and how has it been heated?

Shauna044 · 01/12/2019 07:45

We spoke to a man at wickes from a different store and the way the flooring is he has said it is no way the fault could have happened by the way we stored it and it is definitely a manufacturing problem. He is getting in contact with the wickes we are dealing with. And basically saying the outcome is. A new flooring or refund. And with a refund we would be going for compensation and the cost of the fitters we used. So it's in their best interest to give us the flooring and deal with the manufacturer in wickes own time. Fingers crossed
