Fridge freezers and extensions leads!?

We have a massive new fridge freezer. I had thought it could just go into the space the old one stood in, but it looks wrong. There is another area of the kitchen where it could go (and it does look much better in that space), but there’s not a plug socket there. Can I plug an American style fridge freezer into an extension lead? Or do I just need to leave it where it is?

Extension lead would need to be 2-3 metres long.

I don’t think that would be safe. Can you not get an electrician to add a socket at the preferred location? Shouldn’t be too expensive and any damage to the paint will be hidden by the fridge anyway.

I could, but I was hoping someone in the know would come along and tell me that it wouldn’t be a problem Grin ah well, I thought it was probably a bit risky. I’ll call the electrician in the morning!

There is nothing wrong with an extension lead. Ensure it doesn’t present a trip hazard though. Unsightly yes, unsafe no.

Just check the maximum load of the extension lead but it is unlikely to be a problem with a fridge freezer.

Ah, now those responses are more like the ones I wanted to hear! Agree about it being unsightly but the lead would be hidden behind other furniture anyway.
