Do I need an architect to build a porch?

Totally perplexed as to how to start this project!

We want to build a porch in front of our front door, which will allow us to slightly extend a bathroom wall on the ground floor and squeeze a shower in. Doing the bathroom bit seems straightforward enough, but I've no idea where to start with the porch.

Is this the kind of thing you need an architect for? Or do I just contact some local (recommended) builders? Where do I even start?

(I know I don't need planning if I keep to within a 3 m footprint, so that's OK!)

TIA

My understanding is that you only get around the planning permission if it's just a porch, if you're moving other walls, that might change things.

I built a porch a few years ago, didn't have an architect, just used a builder. It's a relatively straightforward process.

Also remember that you 3m area is measured from the outside, you space you get inside is much, much smaller.

I had an extension/porch fitted to include a small shower room. It was within permitted development but we employed an architect to come up with ideas in line with relevant permissions and apply in the correct way to the council. He was the cheapest part of the process.
