Hello all

My daughter bedroom is the coldest in the house as it is open to the outside on three sides and the roof. I have just noticed though that the radiator is single panel, and every other one in the house is double panel. Does anyone know if there would be a reason why I can't change it to a double panel, and if that is a big job? @PigletJohn your wisdom would be much appreciated, (other well qualified tradespeople are available)

do the radiator pipes come up through the floor?

If yes, Is the floor "planks" or chipboard or concrete?

Have you checked that the existing radiator is fully hot all over? The incoming (flow) pipe and the top of the radiator should be "too hot to hold" and the bottom of the radiator and the outgoing (return) pipe should be "too hot to hold for long"

It should also be hot in the middle and both sides.

Pipes come up through the floor. It does get hot all over with a temp difference between in and out flow. It's just the room can get viciously cold as it is the top of the side return and the rest of the bedrooms are in the main body of the house.

Much obliged PJ

Not particularly difficult, then.

If you get a double or even triple rad the exact same width it can easily be fitted. Measure your existing radiator accrossways in mm, and height also mm. Phone local plumbers merchant and ask for details of double connectors in exact same size. OR if it's very very cold in there consider seeing if they can supply the same width with a taller height if you can fit it in (ie not below a window). Triple connectors are also available but are bulky. If for example they are being doors you need to measure the projection from the wall to allow door opening. They are much hotter.you might get a choice between standard or flat panel roads, check the sizes on offer for the best fit not what sounds best on impression.
Have you got some thermal lined curtains in that room they make an immense difference.
I replastered our coldest rooms and covered the walls and ceiling (exposed attic rooms) with insulated plasterboard first. It's definitely helped .

You will probably need the pipe work changing slightly as the double radiators sit further from the wall. Unless there is a lot of movement of the pipes from under the floorboards

Thanks all, looks like that is a project for us then. Thanks
