Cork v tile flooring in kitchen: opinions please

Kitchen has laminate which is showing its age, not least becuase years ago it was laid badly and I think we bought poor quality.

Time for a change - I want material that will last as long as possible (a more sustainable option) and am wondering about tiles v cork (the latter would presumably have to be treated). I don't know if cork is likely to be cheaper or if it's particularly suitable in kitchens. Or any other material that would do the job? I don't think we could run to real wood.

Any experience of cork flooring in kitchens? Or in living rooms as sometime that room will need re-flooring (same laminate).

Many thanks!

You could also consider bamboo.

There is a MNer @TalkinPeace who has posted photos of her kitchen and loves her bamboo floor.

I have tiles and hate them, too hard, cold and slippery but can’t afford to replace them. I looked at cork and loved it but was just too expensive for me.

You could always try vinyl flooring if you like tiles but don't want it to be too cold? They look basically the same and are a lot cheaper? Cork is nice but I like this one? lifestyleflooringuk.co.uk/amtico-spacia-stones-sift-stone-canvas-ss5s6133

Think any kind of warm coloured beigey type ones look pretty good anyway?

linoleum is natural....haven't googled it to see sustanability. I had cork tiles in my kitchen and hated it, but it was probably very very cheap. It broke at the corners and started lifting up....

The previous house I lived in I had cork tiles in my kitchen & loved them. I did spend on good, well sealed ones. Warm & soft to walk on & I noticed I got less back ache if I was standing in the kitchen for any lenght of time, than when I had a tiled floor.

That was about 15+ years ago & I can't remember the make.

There were cork tiles in my old kitchen. Hard to keep clean and a nightmare to get up when we replaced them.

depends on how much traffic in the kitchen imho. outdoor boots and pets vs shoes off at the door upstairs flat. we have laminate cork flooring in loft room which has really well re soundproofing/warmth, but it does mark and scratch. was a doddle to lay, apparently :) i wouldn't trust it much with large amounts of water e.g. in a bathroom or under a leaky sink!
