The valve will need replacing , Turn off boiler , and water , drain the system , replace valve , not a difficult job but best get a plumber to do it , of which I am one 🙂

Hi. I’m a plumber. The missing head looks like Screwfix catalogue number 36326. Trv’s sometimes fail in the ‘off’ position which to get the radiator to produce heat, removing the head will allow the radiator to come on full. The lock shield valve At the other side is to balance the system so shouldn’t be adjusted. When you fit the new head, turn the head to fully open. Trvs do have a pretty standard thread but the pins inside them have different depths of travel so try to get a direct replacement. I looked on google images to find the Screwfix head I have mentioned. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for the replies. I think a plumber is the answer!

The plumbers want you to think so!
Seriously, my rads are hot without the thermostat on the end, just wiggle the sticking out pin. I didn't need to drain the boiler or any of that! It's a 5 min job, if that to get the rad hot again.

Does it need bleeding?

I'm struggling to seethe picture perfectly on my phone but it looks like a thermostatic radiator valve with to top bit taken off. If the pin is stuck it won't let water in, so give the pin on top a little jostle with some pliers. If the pin isn't stuck then the return valve on the other side of the radiator will be closed and just needs turning left to open it. Failing that use a radiator key to bleed air from it. Smile
