I'm thinking of upgrading my boiler, Glow Green gave me a quote of around £2000 for a Worcester Bosch.

Has anyone used this company before?

DO NOT USE - GIVE A MASSIVE-WIDE BERTH

DO NOT USE! You will only suffer frustration, heartache and a cold house.

Glow Green is a business with multiple departments that all make promises, but which none of them keep. Each phone call (and you will make plenty in order to chase them up ) will waste at least 20 minutes of your life waiting in a queue. They will say a fitter will turn up, he/she will not. Then whilst you are away a random fitter will show with absolutely no notice. Then you will have multiple no shows on other occasions having made arrangement to be in or change travel plans. The sales department (Neil Shimmin) will make promises and not deliver. Yolanda in Scheduling Department says she has booked a fitter - but they will not show. They do not use brand accredited fitters which means you do not get a free extended warranty as some brands offer with accredited fitters (e.g. Viessmann), but they will try and sell you one! They do not do a jet flush which is what you really want if you are going to install a brand new, very expensive boiler. Lloyd Greenfield (the CEO) is next to useless too.

Do not be suckered by the 5 star reviews like I was, read the lesser reviews too. Do look at the dreadful and very familiar to me reviews on "mumsnet" There are a collection of reviews that mirror exactly my experiences. I had to get a deposit refund in the end having wasted 8 weeks waiting for a fitter and boiler, even the refund was delivered with a delay to the 5 business days stated! It took them 2 weeks to pay me back. Their financials lodged at Companies House tell you that this business is going under. STEER CLEAR - DO NOT USE - I IMPLORE YOU. Kxx

Reading between the lines I think it's a 'no' then. Wink

MrsCakelady · 26/01/2021 12:35

Burr, cold good morning everyone,
Much to my surprise I saw reviews of Glow Green on Mumsnet. Not pretty reading.
How can the reviews on Glow Greenks site be so “glowing” when there are several contradictory on Mumsnet?
Unfortunately our unfinished boiler installation has become, and I’m not one for this expression, a nightmare, There is electrical work to be finished.

I am at the end of my tether. A trail of numerous calls asking for this work to be completed with each customer service assistant saying yes I’ll sort this out. Complete rubbish.
We’ve been without heating and hot water for 3 weeks. ( I know, there are homeless people and we should be so lucky.)
My daughter is a very hard working teacher and should be comfortable and I’m a pensioner, also partially sighted.
There must be a heating engineer’s trade ombudsman, or similar.
Thank you for reading this post. All advice and suggestions welcome.

PLEASE AVOID THIS TERRIBLE COMPANY. The first engineer installed a boiler in my house, but the heating never worked. At least 6 other engineers were sent to my house to fix the heating issue, but they failed to resolve it.

DazT · 22/07/2021 20:53

Glow Green are genuinely the worst company I have ever dealt with. On the day of installation, the engineer did not show up and the company could not locate him. The boiler arrived late, in any case, and was left on the road outside of my house. After 18 months, numerous engineers, many no-shows, endless phone calls and a complete lack of communication within the company, I still do not have a correctly installed and working boiler. I have had two winters without heating or hot water and they are taking me to court for non-payment, despite assuring me this would not happen. Even their own workforce criticise the company. Avoid.

Low quote, then huge bump up in price at installation:
They did the survey on line, without sending anyone to look at my existing system. I have a 47 year old floor standing boiler that needs replacing. But they only asked for a very few photos. I sent them in and they came up with a quote which was the lowest of the 4 I had. They sent a form saying what they were going to fit etc. A lot of the details were blank, and I knew that they were important and would require to be changed from the existing set up. So I queried that and the Quotation department said to send more photos that I thought relevant. They said the to send them to the installation Department. I knew that I need a different flue, which cost about £80 to buy. They increased the price by £125, which I accepted. But there were still quite a few gaps. Even though you tell them they haven't asked you about things they need to know, and ask them to contact you, they don't. The finances are then set up. When the plumber arrives, he finds the job is a bit more complicated. He can't start. So, he wastes 1/2 a day sending all the same EXTRA photos that I sent them, and waits for them to sort it out. They then say it is a 3-day job (Plumber says it’s not worth starting as its 12 noon) and then they raise the price by over £1000, making it the Dearest. Actually, it only required a different flue and two runs of 15mm copper pipe in the loft. Naturally I cancelled. Now I look at reviews (I wish I had earlier!) I find nearly 20% people give the worst possible review Now I'm hoping British Gas will make a good job of it next week. Theirs is a Fixed price. Alex came and did a very thorough survey. The price is the lowest.

thatonehasalittlecar · 25/07/2021 12:13

I got a quote from them but ended up going with Boxt who came in a bit cheaper and seemed more knowledgeable (I did my own research then asked them some questions that I knew the answer to - GG seemed to be trying to upsell me, and Boxt actually suggested I downgrade from my chosen boiler). I was very happy with the installation, the customer service and price. Only thing was the installer forgot to take the old boiler away, but the customer service people were very apologetic and sorted it out.

Oh, just noticed it’s a zombie thread. Why??

A dishonest and fraud Company

I had a terrible experience with Glow Green. This company is completely a dishonest and making fraud with all its customers.

Due to their advertisement of 12 years warranty of Boiler, I was interested in to one with long warranty. I spoke to the sales agents several times also a number of emails were also exchanged. The boiler was installed on 7th September. While I was waiting for papers for 12 years warranty with very anxiety I identify a condition attached with that. The condition was you HAVE TO take an insurance product from then!

If this is the condition, then they should mention it at the very earlier stage while they advertised the “12 years Warranty”. As a customer at the very end if you identified you are not having what the company promised and advertise then why you shouldn’t treat this company as a fraud and dishonest company?
All the Salespersons always mentioned the 12 years warranty but never mentioned the condition attached with that. With a great frustration I raised with their customer relation and unfortunately, they just reply with a generic comment!

As I haven’t managed an honest reply from the company so I have decided to take it further. I will instruct soon a legal firm to act on behalf of me.

My honest suggestion would be try to avoid this company at any cost if all at possible and if you have already have same sort of experience like me, please feel free to contact with me. As a group of customer, we can start a movement to force a company to do ethical practice.

Very bad experience, horrible service
Very bad experience. I have the combi boiler installed two years before by this company, but it did not provide hot water. Glowgreen sent two technicians to us but they didn't solve the problem. Finally, I have to find a local engineer coming to fix the system. Their customer service team kept changing contact persons and lost contact after 6 months. I keep all communication records (email). Be careful! Be careful! They rather sue you than provide a satisfactory service.

niknak9 · 22/09/2022 17:38

Don't use Glow Green unless you want to spend hours and hours getting frustrated at the lack of progress. What was supposed to be a 2 day job on 3rd August 2022 is still being dragged out today, 22nd September 2022. They never call with updates, so I have called them to ask what is happening. They don't seem to have any kind of diary and if they did have one, they probably wouldn't use it. Please believe ALL of the bad reviews for Glow Green and avoid them at all costs.

@hannahcolobus - have you heard anything about Boxt boilers? I was thinking about getting them out for a quote. Just had British Gas out and they weren't just ridiculously expensive, the bloke was really patronising and quite unhelpful too.

MishaBukvic · 23/09/2022 07:52

I'm not 100% sure that Boxt come out to quote, i think they just do quotes online @SpidersAreShitheads

I found an excellent engineer through Vaillant - I went on Vaillants website because that boiler was recommended, and found one of their approved installers local to me. He came out to measure up, and gave a written quote and no hard-sell. I did have two local heating installers out that werent' Vaillant approved but I just didnt have the confidence in them so went with the Vaillant guy.

niknak9 · 23/09/2022 08:38

In my opinion, the biggest problem with Glow Green and many other companies is... They claim to cover all/a lot of areas in IK. They are based in Bournemouth. If you are outside of their immediate area, they do not visit to measure up and estimate the job. They just sub-contract it to a local contractor. This then becomes a problem because there are too many people wanting a piece of your money. Glow Green do not organise or manage the project, they just order materials on a Adhoc basis so don't really know when or where the materials are or when they will get to you. They also don't manage the contractors time, so they cannot tell you when your fitting team will be with you. Overall, Glow Green have THE WORST organisational skills that I have ever come across because they are claiming to cover a vast area when they have no chance of doing so in a professional manner.

Aaah right, thank you very much @MishaBukvic! We have a really complicated set up - we need two boilers, one which will be new and the other one which will need moving, plus new radiators and pipework. So not sure whether they could give an accurate quote without seeing it.....

I think my DM was hoping to pay it off monthly, and I know Boxt offer that. it's a big renovation job so paying off the boilers monthly interest-free would be very bloody handy right now haha!

Maybe I'll see if I can message Boxt and see what they say otherwise I'll have a poke around the Vaillant website. Thank you!

Just had a telephone call and soon realised this was a bad idea. Seems to be a call centre and then sun contracted. When spending thousands, I want to know the heating engineer who is actually doing the job. Not going ahead.

pattihews · 20/10/2022 14:39

That's a reasonable price. Probably better to get a decent well-established local company to fit. Some of the nationals aren't good at coming back if there are problems.

pattihews · 20/10/2022 14:43

Yes, a call centre should always raise alarm. What Glow Green or similar companies are doing is selling you a product which their workforce may fit if they have someone in your area. More likely they'll phone companies in your area and try to persuade them to fit for peanuts. That's how many of these apparently 'national' companies work. A friend in Norfolk had a gas fitter from Scotland come down to install a boiler for her on one occasion. He was in a hurry to do it all quickly and didn't flush her system, because that would take too much time.

RainingYetAgain · 20/10/2022 15:03

@Warrilow37
You could try looking at Which Trusted Trader - you can sort by distance from you. The workmen I have had using them have been reliable.
@KC81
DS is getting quotes for his boiler ( moved house in April, gas boiler packed up 😠 ) and all the WB quotes have come in at over £2K. Plus, if you go to a WB approved contactor you get 12 year guarantee and labour on any repairs included. )

WH1 · 02/03/2023 10:37

BE VERY AWARE
They will sell you anything just to get your money, then completely ignore you.
I asked for a PV system to run my home with additional 6kw of heating, they sold me a system that won't run a 60 watt light bulb.
When I challenged the system installed they replied by saying it's winter, the system won't reach full capacity.
Now I'm no expert but I don't think I'll need the heating on in the summer when " the system is at its best ".
Now they won't answer me and have just said " it's working isn't it ".
I'm now left with a £7000 system that don't work how I want and £2500 worth of eco friendly heaters I can't use.
So please be aware they will just take your money and run

niknak9 · 12/06/2023 19:15

Avoid Glow Green in Bournemouth and tell all your friends and family to Never, Ever have anything to do with Glow Green.
They got my job based on lies that their sales team told me. They promised what they could not keep. They took a 20% deposit so I was stuck with them before I realised that I had been conned.
They run from an office in Bournemouth and sub contract to small, sole trader companies all over UK. They have no history with these sub contractors so they could be sending anyone into your house. They are not vetted for security or for knowledge or skills. Simply asked "Can you fit solar panels? if yes, would you like to fit some for us and we will pay you a small sum of money.
What should have taken 2 days, took a whole year, filled with constant emails, telephone calls and missed appointments.
My Solar Panels and battery are working now but it cost me over £2,000 in lost income and excessive costs.

JayKy · 03/11/2023 18:33

I had a boiler fitted by this cowboy company it was supposed to be October 2017 they gave countless excuses the boiler didn't get installed until 9 months later when it did they installed in the wrong place and made so much mess around the property the boiler was never commissioned according to guide line they came back few months later try to put things right again they screwed up and fitted in wrong height with missing parts on boiler like filters flue guard which I paid for and there are ongoing issues with boiler problems to this day
Still having problems with them they took my money first couldn't do anything had bad communication with the staff. not a good company at all real bad attitude toward customers anyone out there want to take this people to court your welcome to contact me I have a lot more information all the paper trails communication ,emails telephone recording they real gave me stress and loss

Dom123 · 24/01/2024 19:57

Hi did you take them to court? I want to take them o court they have fitted out boiler 4 years ago and now my heating stopped working as our pipes are so dusty we have no return on radiators , boiler is not serviceable and not working properly at all . I spoke to vailant as that si the boiler Glowgreen fitted and they said they were meant to do a power flush as they need it to fit the boiler to a clean system not a dirty system that I am left with on sealed system as they didn't power flush the piper when fitting the new boiler . They came up with crap about not having recording of conversations in 2020 as they did t record them then apparently as a inclusive result to say that they can't prove not disprove that this was offered to me . What a load of shite I have never even been told I need such a thing ,but one of them told they don't offer it I was meant to ask for it wtf how the hell would I know I needed it shorely it should have been the engineer saying I can't fit the boiler in this system as I'd very dirty and needs thorough clean and power flush is required.
I am taking them to court disgusting company
