Kitchen design advice

Hi everyone,

We are in the process of purchasing a property which in the near future will need a brand new kitchen. At the moment the room is about 5m x 5m and the hob and sink are in opposite sides of the kitchen, so about 5m away from each other. I am sure this is not going to be a nice layout, as it will involve walking 5m from the job to the sink and another 5m to the fridge which is on the third wall. The fourth wall is a large (around 3.5m) door to the garden.

First question until I can come up with a few floor plans, is how wide does a room need to be to fit a row of units, an island and a dining table. I was thinking keeping the fridge and sink where they are, and moving the job to an island. So 60cm for the row of units, 1m between units and island, 1m for the island, and 2.4m for the dining table. This should probably be 80cm or 90cm wife though to make it comfortable for people to sit down.

Anyone that has a similar layout and can advise on measurements? I will try to mock some ideas and post later today.

Thanks!!
