TRV’s only and no thermostat

We have TRV’s in our home but no room thermostat fitted. We are renting and there is a thermostat on the wall but it has not been fully fitted. I have the TRV’s set to around 3. But we only have our heating come on an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening so the house feels quite cold at times. Does anyone know if there is a more efficient way to heat the house so we feel the benefits? E.g leave it on for longer hours or put it on in the afternoon? Any advice would be much appreciate. Thank you

What do your trv’s go up to? Ours go up to 6, and need to be up near that in winter for the place to get toasty.

you really should have a thermostat.

How old is the home and how old is the boiler?

Do you have a landlord who DGAF about the comfort or costs of their tenant?

what does "has not been fully fitted" mean?

Hmm.. some newer boilers have a thermostat on the boiler & TRVs on the rads, removing the need for a room stat.

However, the fact that you have one but it's not properly working is a bit odd and something i would ask to be looked at.

I always like the ease of turning the overall temp up and down centrally, regardless of radiator valves anyway.

They go up to 5. Our land lord is one of those who is a bit hard to get hold of and pin down to actually doing something. It’s on the wall but doesn’t work. Imagine it needs to be connected. It’s a new build with a combi boiler

We can change the heating level on the boiler. I read somewhere the recommended is around 70 degrees. The valves are set to roughly 3 in each room which I believe equates to a room temp of 20 degrees. I just wondered how long to leave the heating on or how often to put it on if the valves are set to the correct number

I will continue to ask about fixing the thermostat as I agree it is something I would prefer. In the meantime just wanted to keep the house heated a bit better without spending loads on bills Smile

We have our TRV’s on 5 in the winter and 3/4 when it’s warmer. You be got them set too low. We also have a room stat downstairs but if the trvs are too low the rads don’t get hot.

Comefromaway · 17/11/2019 21:19

we have our room stat on about 23 degrees. If it’s on 20 the room feels cold. The heating is also on 2 hours in the morning and from 4pm - 9pm at night.

It is extremely strange to have new build with a boiler and a room stat that are not connected. Please post a photo of it and advise any brand names, model no.s etc that you can see.

Were you told before you moved in that it didn't work?

It is not correct that a boiler stat and TRVs are an adequate substitute.
