Which range cooker?

We inherited a 90cm electric range when we bought our house last year. It’s been a nightmare from day one - one of the ovens packed up completely on Christmas Day and the ceramic hob is practically unusable - so we’ve decided to bite the bullet and buy a new range with induction hob in time for Christmas. We don’t want (and can’t afford) to go too crazy so it won’t be anything like a Falcon or Brittania.

So, wondering about a Stoves Richmond or a Rangemaster. I like the idea of the Stoves cook with steam feature (though let’s face it, I’ve managed all my life without it!) and the various features like dough proving and pizza function. Does anyone have one? I’ve read mixed reports on both brands and convinced I’ll do the wrong thing. And it’s such a lot of money...

I can’t help looking at the Belling Farmhouse which has none of the whizzy features but is less than half the price (about £850 once you claim the cashback compared to over £2K for the Stoves). I can’t help wondering if the Stoves can really be worth the extra.

Any insights on any of these brands would be much appreciated.

Thanks Smile

Anyone? Sorry. I know this isn’t the most fascinating subject! Smile

I had a Rangemaster in my old house - and I loved it. I didn't even use the steam function as I wasn't much into baking at the time. I regret that now!

I had a rangemaster for the last 10 years , just doing my house up and going for another Rangemaster as I liked it so much - currently in a rental whilst house being done and the bog standard oven is dreadful - so can't wait TIL I get back a decent cooker again!

I have a belling which I chose mainly as it was so much cheaper than the others....I'm very happy with it!

I have the Rangemaster Classic in black - with matching hood - which is now 12 years old from buying brand new. No problems at all and I adore both the gas oven and the electric fan oven.

When I have another new kitchen it will be built around the Rangemaster which still looks like new. Wouldn't entertain anything else now. ❤️

We have a range master 90 in our house as the previous owners left it when we moved in last year as it fitted the kitchen. No complaints but its very old so not sure how long it's got left. I think I will buy the same again as it fits. I think I would prefer an induction hob though as fed up of the gas burning pan handles!

Get a 0% deal on a Falcon, Britannia or Mercury one . Don't waste time or money on another cheap one. Look at credit card zero deals and get a decent one that way.

Rangemaster. Mine is 6 years old and I love it. My mum has one that is 17 years old and still going strong!

Imicola · 17/11/2019 14:59

Range master here and I love it! I think it's a kitchener 90 or something like that.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Quite a lot of endorsements for the Rangemaster - I’ll look again at these. Appreciate everyone’s help.

I've got a Belling, 100cm gas range. I recommend looking at them in person, I don't think the nobs are very good quality but that might have changed since mine was purchased (it was here when we moved in).

We have a Rangemaster Encore Deluxe 100cm Induction Range Cooker installed in the the summer and so far we love.

Beware the standard grill on rangemasters can be quite small so we upgraded to the Encore Deluxe so we could grill in the main oven as well

Fuzzywuzzyhadnohair · 17/11/2019 19:13

Rangemaster- the induction hob is amazing

Fuzzywuzzyhadnohair · 17/11/2019 19:13

Oh yes but the grill is disappointing

We have a Belling 100cm cookcentre induction in stainless steel. We looked at the farmhouse ones but the cookcentre was better - more solid doors, proper stainless steel rather than silver paint etc. The Stoves ones are fancy Bellings - it's the same company. I wanted a Rangemaster for the proper knobs rather than touch controls on the hob but it doesn't annoy me enough to shell out an extra grand.

I chanced it and bought a 90cm Leisure induction range cooker instead of the rangemaster version. I do not regret it at all! It is fabulous and really stylish...and safe, if you've got kids or are as clumsy as me.

There was a 100cm Belling electric range style in our new house and it was lucky I took the annual insurance on it because it became a neighbourhood joke that the engineer spent more daytime hours at ours than DH did.

Haphazardhacker · 24/11/2019 14:17

We have a Stoves Richmond and love it.
