What size porch to be able to put storage in there

I have an old front porch which needs replacing. The current porch is around 80x110cm (external) so pretty useless. I'd like to be able to have some coat and shoe storage on one side and it be 'comfortable' coming in and out.

I was thinking 1.2x2.4m, without needing needing PP. I think this would give me around 1x2.20 floor space

Some have said 3 square meters is 'nothing' if you want storage in there too. I am awful at imagining space and size so I've no idea.

If you have any pleasant NDNs, you could ask to measure & “try” their porches. Smile

I reckon it depends on how much storage you envisage and the positioning of doors.

I am thinking of something like the photos. (Possibly a cupboard/single wardrobe style one, but I haven't found one I like yet)

Both doors would be on the right, rather than the middle. I reckon the free space at the side would end up being around 1mx1.5m. I want a fully bricked porch rather than part pvc, so I will have atleast one wall without doors and windows, that I could have the storage against.

No neighbours I could ask unfortunately, most seem to have a similar size one to mine or no porch at all.

Saying that, I remember visiting a client a couple years ago. They had a porch with one wall full of built in storage, it didn't seem massive but 3 or 4 of us managed to stand chatting in there on the way out.

I'm no longer in that job, nor have I ever met them outside of that visit, but I wonder how weird I'd look going to measure itGrin

That will be plenty big enough for a little run of full wardrobes or a unit like the ones in the pictures.

I'd go as big as you can without needing planning permission. You'd be mad not to. The more space you can get, the better.

I think alterations to the front of a house always need planning???

No porches and the maximum size allowed are listed in the permitted development rules.

Thanks all

I love the storage on the houzz links!
