Selling empty house

We are putting our house on the market unfurnished which I worry will put people off.

Apart from making sure it's warm when people view, any other tips for selling an empty house? No chain is one of them!

Yes we moved and rented in a different area for work . As we didn't know if it was a good move, we just decided not to rent out the house in case we wanted to return , so the house was empty for 12 months or so.
We asked my bil to regularly go in and send on the post , and we kept the house warm over the winter months.
We also had someone over to keep the garden tidy, and for security reasons, a light would automatically come on at night.
We didn't really have any issues with the house on the market empty, and the photos did show that , so perhaps no surprises for the viewer .
We kept a bed there for the few times we visited ( we were 300 miles away ) and the kitchen had built in appliances .

We bought our house unfurnished and were surprised no one else had bought it! So I don’t know if that’s a positive or negative story 🤪. I think it wasn’t obvious there was room for a table in the kitchen or room for a single bed in the box room so there may be a few key bits of furniture it’s worth leaving / buying cheaply to make sure people see the house at its best.

We bought our house unfurnished. The pictures showed it furnished which gave a good idea of scale of things but I found it easier to envisage things without having the previous owners stuff (and dubious taste in furnishings) to distract me.

make sure it is really really clean, with no furniture to distract the eye. That includes inside cupboards, skirtings, lampshades. Have a toilet roll and a towel in the bathroom. Leave door mats too.

curtains and a light on a timer are a good idea. As it is empty you'll need to frost protect and inspect anyway.

Thanks everyone - we do have photos of it furnished from before we left and nothing has changed so I'm wondering if the estate agent would put on both the furnished and unfurnished photos?

Mine just had on furnished pictures. I would agree with making sure it is clean & aired regularly. Ours was a bit musty smelling as it had been empty so long & had a few cobwebs. We didn't mind particularly but I can imagine it would be off-putting for some....

We have only ever bought and viewed unfurnished. I find it easier to imagine being in.

I agree with your thought of keeping it warm for viewings, but I would also suggest doing so in between. The longer it is empty the more you can tell the heating hasn't been on for ages and the more run down it feels. With our last one we viewed and offered in September. My husband went and saw it again shortly before exchange in November so it was colder. He wanted to pull out then and commented on the cold and feel of the place. I didn't and persuaded him to carry on.

If you have any tiny bedrooms I would add a bed if it might be hard to envisage whether one would fit.

We sold our previous house unfurnished and buyer was happy to take the measurements without furnitures in the way. I used go once a week to open the door and windows for flesh air and also my friend bought her house unfurnished was happy to see the house empty and measured everything before moving in
