Saw this thread on AIBU. Do many of you have Karndean flooring. I was going to order some but some of the negative comments on the thread has put me off. I thought I had made the right decision but it seems it is no better than any other vinyl floor

... there's no need for another thread since that's exactly what the prior one was about.

I thought it might be a good idea but it seems you are just overpaying for vinyl flooring. Everyone refers to it as Karndean as if it is something more than vinyl flooring I suppose just to justify the price. Probably best to stick real stone or real wood rather than fake wood or fake stone.

TheOnlySnot · 13/11/2019 18:28

I have it and I love mine. I tried vinyl flooring first, but it got so many marks in it. If something was dropped on it, it would dent, dogs claws marked it, shoes marked it etc. Karndean Is much mor hard wearing.

MiniCooperLover · 13/11/2019 18:51

I've just had it fitted and love it 👍

MaybeitsMaybelline · 13/11/2019 18:52

I love it too, i have three lots but my herringbone parquet is stunning

wowfudge · 13/11/2019 19:56

It is different from vinyl flooring, i.e. sheet vinyl. It is individual tiles with a protective wear layer over whatever the pattern/effect is and LVT often has a proportion of recycled material in it. Our Polyflor kitchen floor tiles do.

Funny how Karndean now seems synonymous with LVT when it used to be Amtico, which is more expensive.

hauntedvagina · 13/11/2019 19:57

In my kitchens I've had laminate flooring that looked cheap, chipped and blew where it got wet. I felt like I could never get it clean.

I've had a tiled floor that we chipped a tile on in the first week from dropping a mug. It was freezing underfoot.

I've had a lino / cushion floor that although warm, cut like butter when I dropped a knife on it.

I now have Karndean and I bloody love it. It's warm, it's textured so you don't slip, it's easy to clean. The biggest sell for me was that if it got damaged you could just replace the damaged strip by heating it and gluing a new one down. We made sure that we ordered enough to have plenty of spares as we covered a large area and want the floor to last.

You do need a good fitter though. Like anything, it will look shit if it's not done properly.

Wineanddine23 · 13/11/2019 21:12

Is it so much better than other brands? Not sure I fancy vinyl tiles but would love something hard wearing. Not convinced by a plastic floor

LetItGoHome · 13/11/2019 21:18

There are other great LVT about. I have distinctive flooring LVT. It has a 20 year wear warranty. Looks fab. Much cheaper than karndean. I was recommended it by my floor fitter who has it in his own house.

Emus · 13/11/2019 21:27

I love our Karndean floor Smile

Wineanddine23 · 13/11/2019 21:47

Distinctive flooring looks like it is much better value than Karndean. Definitely not paying £50 per sqm for vinyl tiles that would be mad.

MiniCooperLover · 13/11/2019 21:49

This is my floor laid this week ... no, not cheap but I love it and it feels great quality and the fitter was great 👍

I would ignore the negative comments. Most people on this thread and the other thread who actually have it sing the praises of Karndean or a good quality LVT equivalent. There is, I feel, a bit of snobbery. I have both Karndean and a cheaper but still quality alternative and I am very pleased with all of it. My PIL were major snobs about it, as was my sister, but after seeing mine, both have decided to have it also.

Wineanddine23 · 13/11/2019 22:22

Having something that is hard wearing would be great but it seems to be just vinyl flooring which I thought be considerably less than £50-60 per sqm

Kamma89 · 13/11/2019 22:25

It's a weird mix of snobbery & envy (because of price). Karndean is one brand of many good quality LVT's but I think its lower priced versions look better than the lower price versions of others like amtico etc.

I don't think anything beats it for practicality especially if you have a household with children/pets/clumsy people
