How much to put in french doors?

I would like to install french doors or bifold doors where I currently have a window. So there would be a bit of building work to demolish the lower part of the wall and move a radiator. Any ideas how much this would cost? I'm in Greater London so everything is pricey here! I've included a photo too.

I'm looking to have some new french doors fitted and found a company called "flying doors" who offer a fitting service for £500. I'd try and get a few quotes though as quotes can vary so much with things like that and obviously it depends which doors you choose too.

Assume you are not widening the opening? If so it would need structural work which costs loads

I have no idea of London prices. Also depends on how much plumbing work is involved to move the pipes. Is it a concrete floor as that makes more difficult. Also depends the type of doors

I would guess out of London prices circa £2k plus the install and purchase of the doors.

My parents had this done. You’ve got to bash down the wall to the level of the floor and cap off any pipes and tidy up the floor and plaster. It was done in a day. That size of window will give nice sized doors. You should get the best quality doors you can afford- and by quality I mean secure with good locking mechanisms. It will be lovely, you’ll have extra light and be able to step right out into the garden. Get several quotes.

No idea of the cost where you are but we recently cut a new door into a window as part of a larger job and had to move a radiator. From our experiences you need to do the following
1- Get in glazing companies for quotes, whilst they are there you need to find out exactly how high the bottom of the doors threshold will be.
2- Get in plumbers to quote to move / remove radiator and it’s supply pipes as creation of door could have a major implication on how the heating pipes run. Hence needing to understand threshold heights so plumber can factor that in.

On the good side the glazing company handled cutting in the door so at least that wasn’t an issue.

Good luck

I had this done with French doors in the midlands without moving a radiator for £1.5k.

Grumpyunleashed · 13/11/2019 20:39

Arhhh, but did your radiator totally block where op says doors are to go on picture?

Pickpick101 · 13/11/2019 20:46

We had the same done came to about £1k , we are in the north.

Appletreehouse · 13/11/2019 21:07

We had something similar done on our house in the North, 1200cm wide French doors were quoted between £500-1200 (we went middle ground at £750). The building work was done as part of a bigger job so can't say what that part cost. In another room we had a Radiator moved position across the room, including supply of basic radiator was around £400.

Thanks so much for all your comments and advice on what the work involves. Much appreciated!

We had this done in London in 2016. Had to move the rad and then needed new flooring.

All up think it was around £2k.

BEST thing we did to that house. Do it!
