Aibu expecting a claim on house insurance to be resolved in less than 6 months

Had an accident in May resulting in my radiator exploding all over my carpet and hall. Phoned the insurance company to be told it wasn’t covered by accidental damage. Complained & threatened with the ombudsman. Instructed to get a quote to get it cleaned. Carpet cleaning company came out and said it was damaged beyond cleaning and needed replacing. Insurers then instructed us to get a quote to replace which we duly did. It’s now over 5 months and I’m still stuck with a crap carpet covered in oil and gunk. Aibu expecting some resolution by now??

Think that's normal actually, much as it is so annoying.

We had to claim off our house insurance when a person fainted at the wheel of his car and drove straight into our brick wall at the front of the driveway. Driver was insured and admitted liability - still took around 7 months to resolve.

Car was a write-off, but the driver was ok, thank goodness!

Wow that's terrible! I'm with Morethan and have claimed twice. Once was due to a flood from an uninsured upstairs neighbour. The room was an unused room that had an old carpet that we'd put down that didn't reach all the walls, a leather settee we had picked up for free for my elderly Great Dane to sleep on and an ancient PC that worked but I only used it for playing solitaire when I was having a ciggy in there.
Morethan had someone out within a couple of days and we were paid out new for old. No matter condition!

The next claim was settled within days too. Smashed 4 year old iPad replaced with a brand new one.

No claim should be taking as long as yours!

Facebookrager they’ve been atrocious. No communication whatsoever. When I first contacted them they advised not to touch it and said someone would be in touch within 48 hours. No one called. I then picked up an email by chance saying it wasn’t covered as my contract stated doesn’t cover diy. My dh had turned the valve as it was leaking but unfortunately turned it incorrect way which resulted in black crap pumping out everywhere. There was also a clause in policy stating they wouldn’t cover for damage caused by delay in repairing items so we were in a no win situation. Policy also states we need to keep damaged item so we can’t take up the carpet. I think I’ve been more than reasonable, we carried out all the redecorating ourselves and I’ve not claimed for the damaged carpet in my study. The black sludge exploded everywhere ! Luckily I’ve been able to put a rug and telephone table over most of damage!

Ours was resolved in about 6 weeks following a burglary , was very impressed , window was patched same day and replaced within 72 hours, paid directly by insurers. It's the difference between a decent company and bargain basement

I changed from admiral to this other company as they had a 5 star defacto rating. Never again!

The claim should be covered by escape of water peril as it's a fixed domestic water apparatus. There will be an excess to pay. Insurers will usually try to restore as it's cost effective.

If your insurers haven't already instructed one of their suppliers to replace the carpet and underlay you should go and get 2 comparable quotes and forward them to the claim handler or loss adjuster who is overseeing your claim.
