Solicitor

Hi

We have viewed a new build shared ownership property and have another viewing next week at the property to reserve it.

The chap from the housing association is adamant that he needs our solicitors details to enable us to reserve the property.

However my broker only wants to discuss mortgages once the property is reserved and so it puts me in abit of a situation. Some lenders make you use a solicitor off their panel, more so from the small selection of lenders that offer SO mortgages it seems.

Do I instruct the most reasonable solicitor and not part with any money just to give the HO the details and then change the solicitor details as and if I need to when I find out the lender I'll be going with?

I have a fair idea of the lender, so I'm trying to 'preempt' the first chosen solicitor anyway.

Any reasonable size firm should be on most panels. Some lenders don't like licensed conveyancers, so stick with a solicitor.

New build shared ownership properties often have tight deadlines to exchange, so best to avoid switching solicitors if you can.
