Ivy growing on neighbors side of the wall

Hi,

Has anybody rented a townhouse with Ivy? The landlord loves his Ivy and had trimmed it properly before we moved in. I have no problem trimming it back. However, when I do so my neighbor comes over and asked me to trim his side as well because it is legally my landlords responsibility to trim his side. ? I've spoken to my landlord who will not cut the neighbor's side. I have asked a gardner to trim it who quoted me several hunder pounds to clear it because it hasnt been trimmed in years! It looks like roof damage as well. What should I do?

nothing, it's not your house, not your problem.

the neighbour must liaise with your landlord.

It’s not your problem but if I was the neighbour and the landlords Ivy was taking over my property too I would be very unhappy.

Thank you for the advice. I'm sure it's in my contract to upkeep the garden. It's hard to ignore. It will be expensive to do the neighbor's side and they are not at all helpful nor feel obligated in any way to pay or help out with any of it. I have talked to my landlord who is a nice person but I believe this is in an ongoing dispute.

Whilst it my be in your contract to look after your garden this cannot possibly extend to the damage done to your neighbour's property. This is your landlord's legal responsibility.

There is no way this can legally come back to you unless you have neglected your garden responsibilities for years
