Asking for your help re kitchen door handle position

Hello Everyone,

A very specific question here!

I am hoping to hear from anyone who has a vertically placed handle, to left or right, on a pull-out kitchen door. I am wondering if this is ok, or if it might put undue stress on the door.

I currently have a hinged door, which I would like to attach a pull out recycling box to. Instead of buying a new door, or making a mess of the current one by leaving holes in the door surface if changing the handle to the centre top position (don't want to attempt this), I would like to keep the handle in its current position to the left, but use the door as a pull put one.

Clear as mud?! I'm sorry for tortuous explanation, I will try to post some photos.

If you have a such beast in your kitchen set-up, I'd love to hear from you - does it work or is it awkward?

Thank you very much!

Should be ok. Think of all the handle-less doors. As long as the pull out mechanism is free moving.

What size is the door? It should be ok as long as it's a smooth mechanism, but if not you could put another vertical handle on the opposite side of the door and pull it out evenly with both handles.

We have two pull out cabinets with vertical handles which are fine but they are only 300 width so fairly light doors and not much pressure.

Thank you both for your replies - the door is 450mm wide and I'm thinking of putting a recycling set of bins inside - should not be too heavy I would think. It would be a soft-close mechanism.
BTW, I can't see a paperclip for image attachments anywhere - any ideas??! Thanks.

pull-out doors more often have a horizontal handle, usually on the top rail. Like you might on a pull-out drawer.

It takes the load more evenly, and guides the user on how to pull it.

We have a sutuation much as you describe (I think!), but in our case the pull-out recycling bin system is fixed to the floor inside the cupboard rather than to the door. So we open the door using the side handle, then pull the bin carrier out separately. Would that work for you?

... situation,,,!

We used to have a integrated bin inside a cupboard.
The door opened in a conventional side hinged manner, and the bin slid out automatically as the door was opened

I've tried a few, and I think that the one that comes out on runners like a filing cabinet drawer, with the door fixed to the carriage, is the best. On BreakfastAtSquiffanys page is a wesco of that style. The runners are near the top, so the handle pulls it out more smoothly than if the runners are at the bottom. You can get them with one, two or three buckets of various sizes for bin wastes, recyling, and compost. The buckets lift out of the metal carriage for emptying. Preferably there is a lid that stays in the cabinet and closes on top of the buckets when closed

Hafele is a good brand. I haven't found B&Q to be very good.

Thank you all very much for your advice and ideas, there's a lot to think about here. I like the Wesco idea and yes Haefele we have in other bits of our kitchen - I think! Best wishes to all.

My bin in a cupboard has lasted 15 years so far with no problems.
Buy a good quality one and it will will last.
