Would you buy a house directly opposite a 5G mast?

Hello
We have found a house we absolutely love - by far the best we've seen and we've been looking for a while. And it is within our budget. I'm wondering if there is a reason it's in budget as we haven't seen anything else that compares for the same price.

Anyway, directly opposite is 5G mast. We think it's been there for a while but in May this year was upgraded to 5G. There are no other houses behind it, or on the other side facing it. Our potential house is directly opposite about 15 meters away. There are no other houses which fall directly into it's beam!

I've read many of the for and against arguments. We are wary. Obviously for health reasons, but also, with the outrage that surrounds some of these masts, we are thinking about resale value. Even if they are proved safe in the future, there may always be people unwilling to live near one.

I suppose it wouldn't bother us so much if we were a 100m away or so, it's just the proximity that is concerning us. My husband has done some research about how they work.

I suppose my question is simply - would you? Just so I can hear some stories, or just gauge peoples' opinions.

Thanks!

Like those invisible waves from your phones?

peteneras · 10/11/2019 18:03

You're not reading what I write. For your benefit £10 PayAsYouGo mobile usage for a year i.e. hardly an hour's talk a year. How much do you pay for your contract unlimited usage a month?

GladAllOver · 10/11/2019 18:12

What on earth has the contract got to do with it?

FlamingoAndJohn · 10/11/2019 18:36

others and science can say what they like. . .

The thing about science is it’s true whether you believe it or not.

peteneras · 10/11/2019 20:01

Contract means you pay a fixed sum every month for (unlimited) extended usage - whether you use them or not - which effectively encourages the user to keep using the phone and therefore, slowly cooking their brains!

On the one hand @Flamingo science tells me alcohol is good for my health and the next science report tells me alcohol can kill me! The same with coffee. . .

Unless you have your phone turned off when you are not actually talking on it, the phone is constantly talking with the base station so that it can receive incoming calls. So you are still receiving its radiation.

Apart from which, hundreds of millions of mobile phones have been used for decades, and it has never been established that any brain has ever been damaged by one, let alone been cooked.

If you are that careful for your safety, there are far more serious risks that you should be avoiding. Like getting out of bed in the morning.

Aren't a lot of masks in school grounds?
I'm mire cincerned by the remotes that still operate throughout the house, the cars being locked remotely as people walk to and from their cars, the microwaves that we have been using for years in homes, offices, staff rooms, everywhere.
And yes mobiles and laptops being used everywhere you turn. Signals constantly being filtered while they are in pockets. I could go on!

shrill · 10/11/2019 21:51

Masts!

Fiddie · 10/11/2019 22:27

@W0rriedMum two of my relatives had leukaemia, the first thing the consultant asked was had they lived near pylons.

They had, they were sisters and sadly the younger one didn't survive and the elder one did but has lots of issues as a result.

W0rriedMum · 10/11/2019 23:52

@fiddie I'm so sorry for your loss. The people I know were all female and all around the same age. It is awful if there is a link.

stayathomegardener · 11/11/2019 08:17

@Lightsabre which mortgage company was it that refused your application?

Pitterpatterpettysteps · 11/11/2019 10:17

I really wouldn't take the risk

Mollymur · 05/01/2020 19:27

Hi just wondering did you buy that house in the end across from the cell tower. I'm in the exact same position just put an offer on a house but there is two cell towers about 40 meters away. What decision did you make in the end . Hopefully someone might be able to give some reassurance about living close to these things if there is any
Thanks

Alright then Alex Jones. 🙄

ListeningQuietly · 05/01/2020 19:50

Be very careful of ingesting too much di-hydrogen monoxide

Mollymur · 06/01/2020 09:34

@ListeningQuietly ok thanks for that advice . You don't have any advice on 5g masts?

ListeningQuietly · 06/01/2020 16:58

5 g masts have only been switched on in the UK very recently
they are nothing like electricity pylons
and do not throw out nearly as much em radiation as the sun

in short I think there is a lot of bunkum in most of the press about all things em

Mollymur · 06/01/2020 19:37

Ya I was thinking the same iv looked up a lot and the science is they are not dangerous . Can't argue with science. Thanks

funkstar525 · 10/06/2020 15:03

@starshideyourfires stay well away!!!! There is overwhelming evidence that those living in close vicinity will experience effects. Look for Eileen O'Connor (I think that is how you spell her name) and Wishaw village where there was a cancer cluster. She and a number of other residents developed all sorts of symptoms and many, cancer.

She is now a director of a charity on radiation research.

Sometimes123 · 11/06/2020 20:16

The only harmful thing about 5G masts is the conspiracy theories surrounding them that cause telephone engineers to be attacked on the streets. The only thing "falling from the sky" is an engineer who has just recieved a needle stick injury from covert syringe needles secured onto poles as they climb. Louis theroux has recently done a podcast on BBCsounds with a guy called Ronson. Have a listen about the origin of the 5G conspiracy, and if you still believe that birds fall dead from the sky in an apocalyptic event then you're entitled to the belief (however outlandish) but don't 'push' the view unless you can corroborate it, because engineers are getting hurt because of this crap!

NameChangedToProtect1 · 11/06/2020 23:11

Honestly! It's fine its RF engineering not magic! Standard x band marine radar transmits at around 9GHz commonly at 25Kw with a directional radiator- the biggest hazard is being physically struck by the rotating antenna! That's just one of the common sources of SHF that you encounter with a much greater power level than 5G!

areallthenamesusedup · 14/06/2020 20:58

Health issues aside ( and my feelings are there are none) it will always be a factor when you come to sell. It will always put people off. It would have to be massively under priced for the area to be a good investment IMO.

mummymooch · 10/01/2023 12:29

My thoughts exactly 🫣

I assume all the people frightened of 5g also don’t have microwaves, radios and televisions.

Microwave ovens have Faraday cages that stop microwave radiation getting out. Otherwise they would cook bits of people in the same way they cook food (obviously).
