Just posted for me now the parents!
Be really grateful for recommendations for large villages or small towns for a relocation that my parents are thinking about.
Up to one hour from Bristol or Bath.
Great if there was train station there
Decent camra pub
Shop
Dentist, doctor
Basically enough amenities that they could walk to.
WI/3AU for social
The smaller otherwise the better. They love rural but as they are getting older they need a bit more on their doorstep really.
Budget up to 350 for 2-3 bed detached if poss.

Keynsham was the first place that sprung to mind.

An hours driving or hour by train?

Bradford on Avon

Wells has everything! It’s a tiny city with cinema, supermarkets, proper high street with fantastic market several days a week. And it’s flat ( quite something in Somerset) which will become increasingly useful as they age.
You can walk from side of it to the other in 20 minutes.
It does lack a station though.

Frome is a gorgeous market town with artisan everything and a station. Vibrant educated-hippy type community

Castle Carey has a station and ifs a very chi chi little market town, but I imagine property is very high.

Bruton has the internationally famous Hauser and Wirth gallery and is a pretty medieval market town with a station.

Wells.

Bradford on Avon, lots going on and has a very good music centre for concerts. Easy access to Bath. Lovely walks with river and canal nearby.

Wells is bigger but a charming small city.

One hour from Bristol and Bath covers a massive area!
How about places to the north? Uley, in Gloucestershire, has its own brewery and a lovely pub, but is about 50 mins from Bath. Most of the Severn Vale would fall within your search area, and there are some lovely villages off the A38 where you would get very good value for money - much more so than places closer to Bath and Bristol like Bradford on Avon. Even Tetbury and Malmesbury would fall within your search area.
Also think about Dursley, Cam and Wooton under Edge. All have easy access to the M5.

Yate, Nailsea and Keynsham all have train stations. Keynsham is the closest to Bristol (and also to Bath).

Keynsham would tick all the boxes but has possibly a bit too much of a commuter/dormitory suburb feel to it. Very handy for both Bristol and Bath.

Clevedon might be worth a look - friendly community, lots of retired people and activities, plus nice coastal location. No train station of its own but not too far to stations on the Bristol to Weston line.

I live in Bristol. I agree that an hour from Bristol is a huge area.

I'm particularly fond of

Wells,
Clevedon
Bradford on Avon

However if they'd like a slightly smaller place but with a great community vibe and lovely pubs etc it's worth at villages around the Chew Valley like

Chew Magna
Chew Stoke
Bishops Sutton
