House we are buying has been empty for some months - should we view again before exchange?

The house has been empty, there's been a lot of rain recently. Should we have a last look before exchange to see if there's been any damage? The vendors wouldn't necessarily know.

Yes might be a good idea - shouldnt matter if the vendors know - you are spending a lot of money!

If you are buying over cold weather I would want reassurance that the pipes couldn't freeze causing a water leak.

I would, definitely. It's an hour out of your day and would put your mind at rest if ok, and stop you making a massive mistake if there's a problem.

My mum’s house has been empty for a long while and my purchasers keep visiting it ( don’t mind at all). I’ve also put heating and water back on timer as I don’t want the property left cold in the run up to exchange. Are your vendors keeping the house ticking over?

the house weve bought has been empty for quite a while we didnt go back to look just before exchange but then we moved one street and i walked past the new house every day on my way back from work so i could see it was still standing

We didn't go back to view. Went to move in and the key didn't work. Agents were closed so had to go and get paperwork, arrange a locksmith, got in and found there had been squatters and it was a mess, lead had been pinched, boiler damaged, water everywhere...

You need a pre-completion check with an empty property and I would also check again before moving in.
