Speculative letters - property search

We have been looking for a house to buy for a couple of years, can't seem to find the right thing. We are keen to move to a particular village and there are a few houses that we've often driven past and thought 'that would be a nice place to live one day'.

I have thought about sending a speculative letter to these addresses explaining our situation and giving our telephone number, should they be considering selling. Do you think this is weird?

Not weird at all! I received such a letter recently and threw it away, but it did make me pause and think about the possibility of selling. Worst that can happen is you'll get no responses.

It’s definitely a thing people do so go for it Smile

Not weird at all and when I was in my late teens my parents did exactly this. We were out looking at houses and did a u turn in a road that they loved as we drove off to the next house. They spotted a house behind a hedge and said "thats gorgeous" so wrote a note and said "if you are ever thinking of selling we would love to talk to you".

They got in touch a week later and it meant nobody paid any agency fees.

It is definitely something that people do if there is a particular road they want to live on or catchment area for a school. Many people talk about thinking about putting a house on the market and dont really do anything about it, but when somebody delivers a letter by hand it can be the nudge they need.

Thanks all for your thoughts, I'll be dropping a note through a door tomorrow Smile
