Granite or quartz

So..we rocked up to the granite and quartz workshop ready to choose granite as I'd been told in the place we bought our kitchen units from it was more hard wearing than granite. But no...the workshop say it isn't, and granite is more hard wearing! ARGHHHH! now feel I have to start again with choice (pale grey shaker cabinets) I want something durable, looks good, pale in colour I think, doesn't stain. Use pan stands anyway so heat wise we are used to being careful.
Any thoughts/experience on either...need to resist tea/red wine stains etc. Neither are my fave material as so hard and cold looking but DH has set his heart on them

I love quartz, easy to take care of and looks amazing.

Corian or similar?
Wood?

A mottled granite hides everything. Never stains and is so easy to clean.

We had to take wood out of our flat. Just stained and even after sanding wasn’t great. We replaced with quartz and it’s cheaper than granite. It’s not as good though. Looks great but just isn’t the quality of granite!

bubblesbuddy...that's what's confused me...we were told quartz was more hard wearing than granite...then in the wholesalers they said it wasn't! Trouble is I did want a light coloured worktop and have heard granite stains if it's light. ARGHHH...who'd have thought choosing a blinkin' worktop would be so difficult....but it's a lot of money and I don't want to waste it.

….the place we went to...the quartz cost as much as the granite..if not more....so they weren't trying to steer us in the most expensive direction....

The granite might have had a better profit margin for them, been less popular so harder to shift, etc...
