Stair bulkhead wardrobe

Has anyone built a wardrobe over their stair bulkhead? Ours is already boxed in and massive and takes up a huge amount of space in the box room which will be the nursery in a few months.

I've been looking at nursery furniture and I can fit in a cot & wardrobe comfortably or a cot and draw/changing unit but not all three. Assuming a free standing wardrobe will be less useful with a newborn than drawer storage so thinking of converting the bulkhead to a wardrobe.

Anyone whose done this was it worth it? And can you remember roughly how much it cost?

Do you need a wardrobe for a newborn, do their clothes hang? (Our son's never did, he's now 10 and still doesn't have a wardrobe!) We have an Ikea cabinet (the Brimnes) fixed on the bulkhead, provides plenty of storage for all his clothes.

Will a single bed fit over the bulkhead (would need some adjusting)

I agree you really don't need a wardrobe but many many people have converted the space into storage by putting shelving in it and a door, or just an opening, at the front. You could use it for all sorts of stuff.

No idea what it would cost though. Not all that much I guess, it's not a huge job. Ask a local carpenter.

Pinterest is your friend! If the room will still be for baby in a few years, you may want a wardrobe - could combine it with draws? Add bed over bulkhead?

We didn’t have a cot or a wardrobe or a changing table thing with either newborns.
I know this is not what you’re asking but you have more time/ space than you think.

Thanks for the replies. I know I won't need much hanging space at all now but I'm assuming in a couple of years I will do was kind to trying to plan ahead!
In my head I'd like some room for hanging space but also maybe some shelving. That would leave me the footprint of the room for the cot. I was thinking of having drawers with the changing mat thing on the top for extra storage but also so I don't have to worry about making sure the dog doesn't sneak in if I'm changing nappies on the floor Envy

Don't think I'd get a single bed @WhereDoesThisToiletGo

Putting a cabinet on might be an idea if sizes work out thanks @EggysMom
