Howdens October sale

I'm awaiting a quote from a builder, provided by howdens for a new kitchen. He has advised me that if I buy the kitchen in October sale I'll get a significant discount.
From my understanding, if I buy through my builders account I would get their discount anyway, so is it actually worth it. Kitchen is going to have to be stored till January if I bought it now.
Any advise appreciated.
Thanks

We are in same position. The discount they told me is 10% but need to order/pay by end of October and they would store for one month. Like you it will be some months before we need it so not taking it up.

I'm thinking the same. Wasn't sure if they'd do a January sale too, or if its just October. Plus the builder would be ordering for me, so get his trade discount anyway. 10% isn't as much as I thought it would be though so prob not worth it. Thanks

I'm going to try to order my kitchen before the end of this month but running out of time! Prices also go up after Christmas so saving is not insignificant compared to waiting until early next year.

10%? That's all? You can get a 10% reduction by just asking for it

Never realised they go up after Xmas, looking at end Jan for fitting. Suppose its a case of figuring out if if worth paying for storage somewhere and ordering now

Any accountant will tell you that if you are in business you can't be supplying stuff at actual cost . So any builder worth his salt will be making a mark up on your kitchen. So as long as you are happy about that, then go ahead happily. But when you see him at the traffic lights in his flashy Car six months later, just remember you paid for the rear half . ( not that I'm bitter much, on behalf of PIL )

Haha, yeah I'd expect them to add a bit on anyway. Someone else suggested they might price match so go to wickes and get a quote fora similar kitchen.

@666onmyhead but it's not really the builder supplying it is it? Unless they are involved in the design process. Luckily my builder let me deal directly with Howdens and just gave his account details. If he did not then I would only have gone with Howdens if their price was much cheaper than others

Jakelew1s · 26/10/2019 14:01

My builders said I can use his account, I'll just see what the quote comes through at. Thanks

I would price up the same units from Ikea and ask Howdens to price match. Might save a few extra £££.

Jakelew1s · 26/10/2019 16:24

Fab, will do. Thankyou

I got a third off when I ordered 2 years ago, but I had to order and take delivery in October.
Not sure if that's a different offer to the 10% above, because they didn't offer to hold for a month.

purpleleotard · 26/10/2019 16:35

The problem with Howdens is that they do not publish a price list.
What you pay depends on who you are. A regular trader will receive a positive discount against a 'walk in' public will receive no discount and be paying a LOT more.
So the 'sale', offer of a significant discount, is difficult to assess.
If possible get your fitter to cost the kitchen then ask to see his pro forma invoice. A good fitter will allow this and just charge you for his time, not screw you for extra.

Jakelew1s · 26/10/2019 16:48

Yeah he's coming with price on Monday, I'll ask for a break down and take it from there. I've got a rough idea from wickes now, so I can at least compare. It's quite sneaky that they don't publish prices as it could be a 50% discount for me, yet 5% discount for a trader who gets the discount anyway. Don't want to end up paying a few more hundred than I need to in Jan.
