open plan kitchen design

Hi I am new to this forum. Just read on old thread about cupboards versus drawers when considering a new kitchen. Am about to order a long awaited new kitchen. It has an open plan design with a hob in a peninsula unit. I'm planning as many drawers as possible as it looks so sleek but then I consider glasses, tea towels, clingfilm and all the small bits and bobs normally in a set of shallow drawers. Does anyone have a kitchen with drawers and how does this work in practice? Is there a lot of wasted space? I'd love to hear your ideas and feedback. I need to make a decision imminently and it'll be a once in a lifetime decision!!

My kitchen is a mixture of deep drawers and cupboards. I keep my glasses in one of the tall cupboards over the worksurfaces, teatowels go in a plastic container in another highlevel cupboard - sort of a box with mesh sides. Clingfilm, foil and silicone paper in the drawer with my cake tins and all the tiny bits an d bobs in a box on a shelf in the freezer housing. A good kitchen designer will go through this sort of issue with you. I have seen dividers in large drawers for this sort of stuff too.

Tea towels in a top drawer, plastic tubs, baking stuff etc. in lower 2 drawers of a 60cm unit. Foil/cling film/greaseproof paper/bin bags/bags for life etc are in a 40cm unit with 3 internal drawers. Glasses are in cupboard above worktop but would be fine in drawers as well.

Internally the top section of my double deep drawers has a shallow drawer. I also have another couple of sets with large wide 90cm shallow drawers at the top (for cutlery and utensils) and two deep drawers beneath.....so 3 drawers on the outside.

I have mainly deep drawers but I have 2 banks of shallow drawers which get deeper as the go down. 3 have cutlery & utensils, one has tea towels oven gloves, another has hand towels, face towels, another has cling film, foil, baking parchment, bag clips etc, one has junk. Not sure what I'd do with all those things if I only had the deeper drawers but am sure someone will come up with a solution!

We have drawers for pans and plates. It’s a revelation. So much easier.

I have cupboards under the sink which worked better.

Also cupboards above the worktop.

I ummed and ahhed about hob v sink on the island. We went sink which worked better as no annoying extractor in the eye line. Our tap even retracts if I’m ever super tidy and clear the island 😂

I should add we have units with 4 drawers = 2 shallow ones side by side and two deep ones. The shallow ones hold the cutlery/utensils/chopping boards etc and the pans/plates etc go in the deeper ones

Ikea has a brilliant drawer insert which is perfect for tin foil, baking paper, sandwich bags, cling etc. Keeps it all neat at the back of a deep drawer

For shallow drawers you can get concealed drawers for cutlery, knives, utensils etc within the deeper drawers to keep the sleek look on the outside.

I keep my glasses in a drawer.

Larder cupboards are brilliant too,
