Boiler service

I had a new boiler installed, & it has to be serviced every year to keep the warranty. I've never bothered before, I only called a plumber when it went wrong.
Just had it done, £100 + VAT ??? He was only there about 30 minutes.
Does this seem reasonable? What do other MNetters pay?

Whereabouts are you? That sounds expensive just for service.

I'm in Midlands and had mine done last week, £50 + VAT. My parents had theirs done a couple of months ago and it was similar.

£90 inc. VAT here - London (Zone 4).

I had mine done last week, 1st after install end of 2018. Quoted £65 but charged my £50 on the day as nothing much to do as was so new. He was here 20mins or so

If it is a gas boiler YABVVVU to not have it serviced every year Hmm.

longearedbat · 24/10/2019 11:42

Oil boiler serviced annually (rural area). Costs around £80 to £100 and he's here for about an hour.

Ilovellamas · 24/10/2019 11:53

£100 seems reasonable that’s what I pay and I’m ‘up north’

DeborahAnnabelToo · 24/10/2019 12:11

Mine was 70 + VAT but he also fixed a leaking radiator. Seems to be a big range.

doginthemanger · 24/10/2019 13:38

I paid £80 last February. It does mean that if anything goes wrong it's covered, so probably worth it.

Saucery · 24/10/2019 13:43

Was £55 with old company, now £78 with new company ( although they replaced a small part in that cost). £100+ VAT does seem a bit steep.

Thanks for your replies.
I used the same company who installed the boiler, next time I'll shop around.

Depends what they actually do, nowadays dismantling and cleaning is not recommended routinely as disturbing it can do more harm than good. In some ways it's just check the combustion readings, clean the general casing, check the pressures and look for leaks. They might also test the water. But really there's nothing much to adjust, it's just a once over from someone in the know.
Personally i don't bother but i can see why it would be a nice idea.
Ask what the service included when you're getting quotes as then you can understand what's missed or not by the different engineers.

Can be cheaper via the manufacture. Check the boiler company website.
