So - instead of buying a house in Zimbabwe - we're building one!!!

Anyone else in the process of building a house "from afar"????

DH has "employed" one of his brothers and a cousin to find staff (architect, builders etc etc) to do it but it feels quite surreal that we're going to own a 5 bedroom detached house in "the sticks"

Are you moving there for good? Or will it be a sort of second home?

That is SO exciting!

2nd home - for the time being - certainly until the DS's have grown up and left home - hopefully by then the country will be back on it's feet and we'd be able to move back there.

my FIL has given us a (large) plot of land in the family "village" where we can build it - so even if we don't ever move back their permanently whenever we've got enough money to go and visit family we'll have somewhere to stay. Plus of course when we're not utilising it any family that have gone "home" will be able to stay there too

You are very brave QoQ to decide to return to Zim with the inflation rates etc being what they are. dh's relatives are desperate to leave! Wishing you well though

Ah X posted - it is all much clearer now lol. Yep, very exciting! You planning to rent out for holidays whilst you are not there?

gibber - we're not planning on going to live back there any time soon - "bob" will be long dead and buried before we even consider going back permanently .

oops x posted with you again LOL.

No - I doubt anyone would want it for holidays (apart from family visiting "home") - it's in the middle of no-where and not close to any of the "tourist" places LOL.

Yeah so I see lol! Here's hoping it won't be long before things pick up and you can go back permanently.

dh has decided to go for hol to SA in December. Was so shocked at the prices! Said it is sad that there is no tourist trade any more for Zim.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 15/08/2007 15:08

yes V Expensive to fly out there - even more expensive to get to Zim!

Tourists do still travel to Zimbabwe - but most are opting for Zambia - and then just doing a quick cross over to visit the falls etc

whereabouts is the village? I spent some time in zimbabwe about 20 years ago when all was fresh and new and hopeful...

it's in Hwedza (Eastern Highlands - well sort of South Eastern Highlands).

You must be utterly demented.

Exciting though.

I was in the eastern highlands! Memory a bit dim about the geography - but I visited chimanimani and did a trip that I think was to the south - pungwe valley? Is cashel valley down that way?
Any places near you I might have heard of?
One day I would love to go back - it is so so sad what's going on there now.

Oh wow, can't wait to see pics when it's done. So happy for you. Wish I could move abroad but ex won't let me take the kids out of the country. Understandable I know and I'm just being selfish.

Great news for you though
