Hi, does anyone have a 9 x 3.5 kitchen/lounge/diner or a 5 x 3.5 lounge/diner? Planning on doing an extension but wondered what a long and narrow room would look like/ ideas of lay outs.
Thanks

We're in the process of planning our extension - not your dimensions, but have a look at roomsketcher.com - it's fab - really easy to use - there's a basic free programme and if you want to be able to see it in 3D it costs £16 or something per project.....

The only thing is I've found it very addictive!!!

@scottishdaisy thank you! I will check it out :-) In case your interested I have a similar app on my phone called room plan creator, its possibly not as colourful as your one but you can see it in 3D at no extra cost.

I might have wasted £32!! Pants!. Can't possibly look at anything else.... have no room in my life for housework let alone another planning app!! (And we are not even building until next year but I seem to be consumed with thinking about where to put my new kitchen. And what colour to paint it)

@scottishdaisy haha I'm the same! I'm still awaiting completion on the property but I'm living, sleeping and dreaming the plans. I wonder what I used to do with my life Grin

Some houses near me have open plan lounge diners that run the full depth of the house. Kitchen, stairs, loos etc all on the other half.

They are without exception (from rightmove stalking whenever I see a For Sale sign) long tubes with dark middles. Not one has been able to sector the space in a nice way - and the ones that had the TV along the long wall with sofas directly opposite remind me of front row cinema seats (in a bad, crane your neck way)

Wouldn't a roof lantern help with the middle bit, Buzz? @09lansaunders... My husband has serious concerns about how I'm going to spend my life when it's all done and we have spent the budget.... He thinks I'll be bored to tears. I've told him I'm going to start gardening (we have a vegetable patch). But I could be deluded....

Wouldn't a roof lantern help with the middle bit, Buzz?

Not in these ones because there are bedrooms directly above (built like that, not later-added extensions poking out the back IYSWIM?)

@Scottishplanner, I can't find an app called room plan creator. Is the one you're using definitely called that? Sorry to hijack!

Our flat in London is around 10m x 3.5m. It’s actually ok for light because it has numerous windows! However, you do have to walk around the dining table to get to the lounge because you need room to pull the dining chairs out.

I quite like it but if the middle section was dark, I wouldn’t!

09lansaunders · 10/10/2019 15:55

@bubblesbuddy I am planning on getting windows installed so that part is fine :-) would you be able to take a photo of the room at all for me please? from one end showing all the way to the other?

I am not actually there at the moment and DD lives in the flat. It’s narrower and longer than you are proposing! I’ve just found the sales spec!

There is a kitchen at one end, dining area in the middle and sitting area at the far end. As it’s narrower than your proposed area, the dining area wouldn’t be such an issue! I have attached the sales pix of the lounge end. We have this as a big L shaped settee with a coffee table. Therefore it’s zoned and we have a sideboard and a storage unit in the middle zone. It’s a Victorian Conversion so does have plenty of light through all the sash windows!

@skippy67 - the one I've used is roomsketcher.com.... it's really easy and you can change colours/materials but if you want to generate a 3d image there's an extra charge.

09lansaunders · 11/10/2019 08:22

@bubblesbuddy thank you, this is very helpful to know that this works even though it is 1 meter narrower than my plans :-)
