Induction or gas?

Hi

I'm having an offer on a house accepted today (fingers crossed). It's an old house, recently renovated with a full brand new kitchen.

The developer has put in an induction hob. I've asked if it can be removed and for him to fit the gas up there for a gas one instead.

My experience of induction hobs has been so mixed. If I ask now, he will include it as part of the sale including it being a certified gas engineer. OR should I leave the induction one in for now and pay later to have it changed if I really can't stand it?

I can't think straight at the moment.

Induction can be powered by renewables
gas cannot

Another vote for induction. So easy to control and cleaning is really just a wipe with a cloth. Nothing burns on as the hob doesn't get hot enough. When I go to friends houses with gas hobs I really notice the smell too.

Another life long fan of gas that dreaded induction but now love it.

So clean and nothing boils over so I wouldn’t have anything else going forward

I love you all! Thanks for reassuring me to give the induction a go and for explaining the benefits.

I am going to try it and from the sounds of all your experiences, love it!

Thank you!

Just read the rest of the thread - I do miss the timers on the plates. I used to start something cooking and could then run off on the school run knowing it would switch off when done.......(Don't tell my OH - he'd be disgusted I left an appliance on. LOL).

I get that induction is not the same as terrible old electric hobs - but I don't get why you are all making so much mess with gas. Love my gas hob, it was replaced last year and seems to use much less LPG, a £35 bottle lasts a year. And I'm power-cut proof too, we get those outside London. No need for special pans and I can still use it if I ever get a pacemaker.

BTW re the power source: windfarms aren't renewables, they are all diesel backedup and are sod all use in an English winter; they only happen because of massive subsidies. Solar panels have toxic waste issues. Nuclear is carbon neutral apart from the building. There are no unicorns.

Diesel - No they are not.
THe latest windfarms are not subsidided at all
they generate the most power in winter
and the payback time on a modern turbine is 8 months

35 years using a gas hob, never thought I change but after using an induction was an immediate convert and had one when I had my new kitchen installed. So easy to use/clean and streamlined in a modern kitchen. Can't imagine reverting to gas.

No brainer. Induction all the way.

Cleaner, way more controllability. I’ve been using induction for 15 years. I wouldn’t dream of going back to gas. Ever.
