Help with what to put in room space

Well we've finally reserved a house (new build) and have 2 weeks before our appointment with the builders. They need to know what we're having in each room so they can put tv points/sockets/radiators in the right places for us.
Sounds great and it's really helpful but I'm still unsure what to do with the space in the kitchen. Any ideas would be very much appreciated.
On the plan (hopefully they're attached to this post) I'm having my dining table in the family area with the french doors as it's quite a long table and we're having a L shaped sofa in the snug with tv on the far wall. There is a big space in front of the bi fold doors which is 11 foot by 11,10 and I've no idea what we can put there. I first thought a smaller table but the kitchen island has space for 4 stools so that's just not needed.
Help please 🤔

Obviously ignore what they have drawn on the plan as only the kitchen and island are going to be where they're shown

A big coffee table something like this and a large rug under to break up the space.

It's a nice problem to have! I always think as much as you have ideas before moving into a house of where furniture etc will go, often after moving in you adjust things sound.

Could you just put a few sockets in that space in the kitchen for now and see how you use the space? It's better to have something in that you don't use, rather than tearing the walls and floors up in future to add them. Is there underfloor heating in the kitchen/family area? If not then I would have two tall upright radiator installed either side of the snug doors on the kitchen side (looks to be a small bit of wall space either side?) as the long wall that backs onto the interior hallway may be useful for a dresser/sideboard/bookcase/play room type area?

A couple of comfy armchairs to sit and read and yes to a large rug to break up the space.

Thanks for the replies. The wall next to kitchen which backs onto the hall will have a tall ladder cupboard. I'd thought of a few chairs but feel they'll look a bit random and I'm worried a coffee table will just end up with stuff thrown on it.
I'm thinking of asking for the archway into the snug to have a doorframe put on so I can add double doors but it doesn't help me with this unused space.
We probably will add sockets etc just incase but I'm still wondering if anything useful could be made of the space, especially with the bi fold doors being there 🙂

What's the door like from hall to kitchen/diner? If it's see-through of some variety then, when you come home, you will see a view through the hall through the empty area (perhaps containing some plants) through the bifolds and out to the garden. That could be a nice, light-filled welcome home.

I'd make that area the snug with sofas, put doors into what's labelled as the snug and make it an office/playroom.

I would make a good guess at where I wanted electric sockets but you may not get it right. When you're actually living in there you may find you're using the space differently. It won't cost a fortune in a year or two, if you find you want to move your dining table or whatever, to get an electrician to put in a couple of extra sockets.

DustyDoorframes · 08/10/2019 17:34

A socket in each corner will give you a reasonable amount of flexibility for how you use the room in future. I'd do that.
Oooh get counter height usb ones where your phones are likely to be charging! Love them! And LOTS of dimmer switches!

AlexaAmbidextra · 09/10/2019 09:13

Make all your sockets doubles.

princesconsuelabananahammock · 09/10/2019 17:46

We are just going to add as many sockets as we can in all the areas but I suppose I'm really just wanting ideas for what to do with the space in case I've overlooked anything.
We will have office upstairs and no need for a play room as that will be upstairs and the snug will be the kids tv with computer stuff etc.
The glass door into the kitchen is a great idea so I'll be doing that but wondering now if o should actually put the dining table there and use the area near the french doors as something else 🤷🏻‍♀️
