Hi all,

We're currently four months into selling our house and have recently decided to advertise as chain free as we're happy to move in to a rented property for 3-6
months with a view to hopefully finding a property we're interested in buying during this time.

I'm looking for anyone else's experiences of doing this, did it work out for the best for you or do you regret it?

Many thanks in anticipation.

Unless you've actually moved, I wouldn't class you as chain free. This would annoy me as a buyer.

If your house isn't shifting may be look at why- price is usually the first stumbling block.

You need to move into rented first before advertising as chain free.
The last couple of house purchases we moved into rented accommodation before selling. The only regret is spending a lot of money to do so.

We have done it before. It didn't make much difference to the saleability of the property we were leaving, but did make the process of selling once we accepted an offer much easier, as we weren't trying to synchronise buying and selling.
One thing I would say, is that once we moved into rented, we got lazy and fussy about what to buy next, as we were renting a much nicer house than we could afford to buy! It's quite common apparently - you see it on Location Location Location a lot. In the end it took us nearly two years to get back on the ladder and only really happened in the end because our land lady kicked us out Grin Still we ended up with a property we were happy with and had had plenty of time to explore new areas etc.
