Do I need a new (integrated) dishwasher? Please help!

I bought a house 6 weeks ago and for the first time EVER I have a dishwasher. Yay. It's integrated and the kitchen is lovely.

Unfortunately the dishwasher does not clean properly. I've researched and tried loads of different things: changing detergent, checking salt, cleaning the dishwasher, checking for blockages in the spinny bits and filters. Everything is clear and the inside of the dishwasher itself is sparkling clean. I wondered about getting a professional out to take a look ... but just before I moved in, it broke (stopped draining properly) and the vendors got someone in to replace a valve. I wonder whether the fact that there's another problem with it so soon after the last repair means that I should just replace it?

Also, if I were to replace it, I'm concerned about the fact that it's integrated in a lovely-looking kitchen. I would want to ensure that the fascia is replaced properly and is flush with the other cupboards so it all looks immaculate. Does this call for a certain sort of professional? Is there anything in particular I should be taking into account here?

So basically I am asking 2 questions ... do I need to replace the dishwasher? and if so, how do I go about replacing it given that it's integrated and I want it to look nice?

It should be simple to replace an integrated dish washer, the front door is attached with clips which she to the door, you should be able to see screws on the door when it's open. The actual dish washer attaches with screws into the unit behind. Again should be simple to replace.

Or new fish washer was worse than or old one took a while to arrange things in the proper position. Have you tried the long cycle?

Before you buy another one, don’t totally fill it. Put it on with everything spaced out. Also rinse everything thoroughly before putting in the machine. No burnt on food. No food dried on plates. I have a mega expensive Miele and I don’t ask that to cope with the above. If you’ve been kind to it, and it still doesn’t work, it’s useless.

What make is it? If you buy a new one, get the best you can afford - Which Best Buy!

Thanks both for your advice! It's a Smeg dishwasher. I am gradually learning how to load it for best results, with gaps between plates etc (which is annoying because surely it should work fully loaded ... the manufacturer instructions also say not to bother rinsing, although I always do!). Annoyingly it is really bad at removing even stuff that is easy to remove by hand, like light tea stains and yogurt (not dried on).

Useful to know that a replacement might not do any better though!

Annoying because I had been SO LOOKING FORWARD to finally living Somewhere where i could have a dishwasher ...

Advice is usually not to rinse dishes beforehand as newer machines need to detect dirt in order to function properly. I've never rinsed things first.

The only times we've ever had issues with a dishwasher not cleaning properly have been when th top basket was crammed full and the water circulation was impeded.

BubblesBuddy · 07/10/2019 11:33

My Miele is new and has no problem with me rinsing. It’s not like everything is clean before it goes in! However if it cannot remind yoghurt and tea it’s not working properly I’m afraid. You could try putting really dirty plates in.

Remind??? Romove...

BubblesBuddy · 07/10/2019 11:44

I am a member of Which and I’ve just looked at Smeg integrates dishwashers. They are terrible! Both Don’t Buys. So it could be that the machine is just crap. Sorry!

I have replaced an integrated dishwasher myself, bought on AO but because of some dodgy plumbing they were unable to install. After I got the plumber out to fix the idiotic thing he had done, I installed the DW myself.

It was a doddle and will never pay the extra for installation again. (Will pay for the old one to be rescued though as the council scheme here is.kore expensive than AO/John Lewis)

rodentforce · 07/10/2019 17:48

Oooh @bubblesbuddy what is the best integrated dishwasher?? Miele?

I've always been very happy with Bosch.

Currently on a Siemens which is supposed to be slightly upmarket but no better.

I prefer freestanding to integrated. Easy to get in and out, and better value. There are a few semi-integrated, but they are not common.

PigletJohn · 07/10/2019 19:35

if you're looking for the best, see what you think of Miele G7310 SCi
("Which" best semi dwr 2019)

The door is not very difficult to fit, but a kitchen fitter will have done a lot more of them and, if necessary, could trim it to fit.

When sliding an appliance into place, clean the floor thoroughly first, then spray it with WD40 or silicone furniture polish.

PigletJohn · 07/10/2019 19:38

"Which" Best fully integrated dishwasher is Bosch SMV68MD01G

at half the price of the semi.

gubbsywubbsy · 07/10/2019 19:45

Have you cleaned out the thing underneath? I have a smeg and it's fine .. I do a dishwasher cleanser cycle every month or so .. you can get them in supermarkets .

blankittyblank · 07/10/2019 20:21

Oh you know what? I was looking at a Smeg dishwasher, but didn't get one when I saw the reviews saying that the spinning arms don't work with dinner plates on the bottom shelf.

When you load the dishwasher, do you check that the arms spin when fully loaded? If not then that might be the issue Smile

goingtotown · 07/10/2019 22:22

I’ve got a Bosch integrated dishwasher, it’s so quiet I can hardly hear it when it’s on.The 30 minute quick wash is superb. Delivered & installed by AO.com.They fitted the door perfectly.

Reallybadidea · 07/10/2019 22:29

I've had AEG, Zanussi, Siemens and Bosch dishwashers. The best by a country mile is the Bosch we currently have. I love it very much indeed. It cleans everything, the arms never get shitty bits clogging them up, it's quiet and it never breaks. If it could drive I'd swap it for my husband.

trilbydoll · 07/10/2019 22:32

We've just got a HiSense Which best buy. AO / Currys will install them for you but they'll charge £90 for an integrated model rather than the £25 they charge for free standing. AO have done a great job of fitting it but I was trawling the internet for discounts to justify the cost!

Lyingonthesofainthedark · 07/10/2019 22:52

I had this problem with my dishwasher OP. Very annoying it was the own brand dw tablets which was the problem. Although I now find that all dw tablets work in it as long as they are not cheap ones and as long as a good few of the washes are hot. I tend to use the 3 in one sort too.

ruralcat · 07/10/2019 22:57

We just got a new integrated washing machine, don't need to rinse anything before loading so I'd look to get a new one if I was you. Fairly simple if you swap like for like.

Celebelly · 07/10/2019 23:21

We have a Bosch integrated one. Works great and cleans stuff as it should! Wasn't that expensive either
