Replacing toilet seat

I need to change my toilet seat because it's broken. It's held on underneath with thick rubber washers (rather than screws as I've had before). No idea how to get these off; If I use an implement to lever them off, I'm terrified of breaking the ceramic. Any tips?

Could you take a picture?

Here's a picture. Perhaps cutting it off with a Stanley knife is the only option?

Use a pair of pliers to unscrew them. They should come down the thread just like a nut would.

They should unscrew. Might be a bit tight though

PigletJohn · 03/10/2019 19:01

there is a screw above. Is the screw-head concealed?

Interesting, pigletjohn!
This is the top of the fitting (see picture)

I know I can remove the actual seat by pushing that button and its partner on the other side and lifting it if, but it's the metal fitting itself where it's gone wrong - something is loose inside and the seat is sliding around on it.

Take the seat off and then the metal disc bit should lift off to show the head of the screw

PigletJohn · 03/10/2019 19:28

looks like the seat might be the easy-off type where you press those chrome buttons on each side.

PigletJohn · 03/10/2019 19:29

sorry, too slow

peteneras · 04/10/2019 07:28

A spray of the good old WD40 might help?

What I now realise is that life would have been simpler had I married pigletjohn rather than DH who doesn't know one end of a hammer from the other! Piglet, you're right; all that contorting under the pan, and I now realise that the screw heads are hidden away under caps accessible from the top once the seat is removed. THANK YOU!
