What would you add? We recently had our tumblr dryer condemned and for environmental reasons we are not replacing it.

We already have a fridge and freezer with adequate space. Also got a dishwasher.

It would be quite expensive to have an original unit made to match the existing units.

So what after market unit could I get (that is individual enough to look ok) or what under counter appliance do I need? This all has access to water and electrics.

I have just bought a house and only had 2 stipulations... An area to store toys that wasn't my sitting room floor, and a space for a tumble drier.

Can't imagine having space and choosing not to have one! Some of te heat pump ones are A++ rating for efficiency! My new Candy condenser is B which isn't too bad!

We put a dog crate and a puppy in ours - probably not helpful! 🐶

I am a bit perplexed at the thought of not replacing a tumble dryer for environmental reasons, but getting an extra fridge to chill water instead...

I love our tumble dryer. We don’t have a car, we use public transport, we very rarely fly, we recycle etc etc - I’m bloody well keeping the tumble dryer.

Wine fridge wins it for me.
I'm flabbergasted by the number of people who couldn't live without a tumble drier! 🤔

heat pump tumble dryer.

They really work - Mine is in my en suite, it doesn't steam up the room at all and barely airs the room, the heat is all recycled.

If I had room in my kitchen I would have 2 dishwashers. No need for any other cupboard space for crockery. Clean, use, move to dirty which when full become clean and repeat.

2nd dishwasher. Game changer - halves the unloading requirement as you just use the commonly used stuff from the dishwasher rather than having to unload it at once. Also stops the annoying pile up of stuff in the 2 hours (usually mid cooking) when the dw is running...

I never had a tumble drier, also dislike washing machines in the kitchen. I use a dehumidifier or put clothes outside.

ChateauMyself · 05/10/2019 16:58

Spin dryer.

Not a thing of beauty but if you’re not going to replace the tumble, then this will be worth its weight in gold.

They spin far, far quicker than a machine, so your washing will take no time to dry and you’ll minimise mould.

Would certainly have to weigh up electricity use if replacing with another appliance. I'd be really surprised if running another fridge 24/7 would be better environmentally than a vented dryer run for an hour twice a week through the winter.

PigletJohn · 05/10/2019 19:33

a vented drier in two hours can use up to 6kWh. In your case 312kWh per year. It is the biggest user of electricity in your house.

The better economical fridges can use about 80kWh per year.

get a dog

i would (will, when we do our kitchen) have a second dishwasher so i never have to empty the fecking thing into a cupboard, only to then empty the cupboard onto the kitchen surfaces, to then put it back in the dishwasher.
