Pebbledash upgrade

Friends of mine have a pebbledash home and they want to freshen it up. We were talking about it and I thought there was a spray finish that flattens it out?

Thought I'd come to the wisdom of Mumsnet to ask if anyone has had a treatment specifically for pebbledash that they can recommend (as I did google but there's a few types )

Many thanks. I'll be passing on any tips.

As long as there is nothing wrong with the render like cracking or loosening then the best thing is just to freshly paint it - i dont think adding another layer of render is a good idea or necessary.

Why the pebbledash hate?
For a certain age of house, it's absolutely the right finish and yet people insist of removing it, even when it's an original feature.
I don't know if that's the case here and I do understand it can look a bit dull and brown when unpainted, but it's easy enough to give it a lick of paint.
Your friends are mad to think of re-rendering over the top. That's a recipe for future problems in my opinion.

Hi, thanks both of you for responding. I didn't get the impression that they hate pebbledash, just that they want to freshen up the exterior.
It's a fab, welcoming home and they love it. She said others nearby have fresher up their homes and now her house looks sad in comparison.

Pebbledash is often concrete coloured and not very pleasant. So dull! You can paint it. Takes forever due to crevices but it freshens it up really well.

We got a £4k government grant to get external wall insulation on our pebble dash walls. It looked stunning.

Ooooh I bet she'd like a grant. Off to text her now. Fingers crossed! Thank you !
If not, I'm thinking painting might be another option, will heed your advice re it bring a big job.
Thank you !

My tip is to never paint it yourself, it’s an absolute nightmare!
