RCD has tripped and won’t reset

This has happened 3 times now, and it always seems to happen when it rains heavily. The first time it actually happened when I had my soffit boards and windows jet washed, the other 2 times - heavy rain
I think that there is an outside leak, perhaps an outside light or where the previous tenants had run some lighting to the shed. It could also be the loft. I reported it to social housing provider, they said it would be one of my appliances and to reset the circuit board which worked.

This time it will not reset. I have unplugged everything so I am not sure what else I can do?

The RCD circuit is both upstairs sockets downstairs lights and includes the hot water solar panels!

Is this an emergency? I don’t want to call them out today if it is not

Call them. If you can't reset the RCD and have unplugged everything then it must be an issue you can't fix yourself.

Have you gone through your circuit board switching each area off then flicking them back on one at a time to identify the area that has the problem or have you done this and when you switch each and every area on it trips the board.

Also sometimes there is a button you press that resets the board

I took out every single plug from the upstairs on the RCD and turned off all the lights

I then flipped down all the breakers one by one, turned off the mains board, waited 30 seconds then turned it all back on. The RCD just won’t reset

I have called someone

I’m annoyed as I already tried to tell them water is getting in somewhere!

We had this a lot was an outside light my DH had actually wired up wrong Shock can you turn of outside electric supply on your fuse board and see if the RCD will reset? Our modern fuse board has each thing labelled, but the outside was on a ring with some other inside bits unfortunately, but meant we could rule it out what the issue was after mistakingly blaming the dishwasher for ages

Same here. Bite the bullet and pay an electrician to trace the problem and seal off. Ours was an old live wire to a greenhouse that had been removed by the previous owner.

I think the same too, it’s an outside problem and won’t reset as it’s still wet. Outside lights all on the same circuit Angry

There is a big black cable that goes out to the shed. The shed has no electricity so the cable itself isn’t live, but IMO the entry point into the house is where water is getting in

Ha... just turned the upstairs sockets back on separately and the RCD will reset! So thanks to MN we have concluded it is the downstairs lights (probably outside!)
