How to protect marble fireplace when plastering

We have the plasterers coming in a week or so to skim the whole house (walls were absolutely terrible under the wallpaper). In our living room we have a beautiful perola marble fireplace and I'd like to protect it as I know marble can be very porous. I thought I would use heavy duty bin bags and tape but I've just read adhesive can also damage marble. Does anyone have any hints on how best to protect the fireplace while also leaving the walls ready to be skimmed? Googling has got me nowhere. Hugely grateful for any advice!

Have you asked the plasterers? Ours brought their own stuff to protect the fireplace.

Thanks, @moonbeanBonnet. This is exactly what my husband said - I think I've become nervous because our plumber told me "you'll want to protect that before the plasterers come!" Why I think the plumber should know more about it than the plasterers themselves I don't know...

I'll give them a ring tomorrow, but in the meantime if anyone has other ideas do post them, just in case!

I think masking tape around the very edge of the fireplace might be helpful. But I reckon the plasterers will have some ideas.

Some builders use heavy-duty clingfilm type stuff. Might be worth asking yours how they plan to protect it.

Just popping back in case it's useful to anyone in the future - the plasterers brought along industrial thick clingfilm and the fireplace remained perfectly protected. Thanks to everyone who replied!
