Renovating downstairs toilet

Hi,

Please talk me through renovating my downstairs toilet. For example I want to replace carpet flooring with tiles - do the tiles come first or is the new toilet set in place first? The toilet is a small space, anyone else put in any space saving devices/ways to make it seem bigger. Weirdly the ceiling is quite high, I have a radiator on the wall that I would like to remove and reposition (new radiator). I will need a plumber to sort these things. Trying to get it done in a bit of a hurry. Any advice appreciated.

Hi
You do the floor before putting toilet down. How big is the room? A corner sink may help with space. A tall thin ladder radiator would be great if you could afford to replace it. Do you need to store stuff in there? Maybe do high up?

Thanks helpmum. Yes, I'm thinking about a tall thin ladder radiator and will scrap existing one. Do the tiles go underneath the toilet or are they cut around or doesn't it really matter?

I'm thinking tile underneath.

When I've had my bathrooms done (both in recent years) I've hired a firm that does everything, They design the layout, organise a skip, take everything out, and then organise the electrics/plastering/tiling etc

In both cases, and in every house I've lived in, flooring has been last to go down.

We have our pipes to wash basin etc boxed currently and painted white, I think a slimline vanity unit might cover them or something similar - has anyone done anything different with these pipes (the wall is a partition wall and not deep enough to sink the waste pipe into.). Somebody did not think out the design of our rather small downstairs toilet but as dh says it is just a toilet! To move our radiator to where I was going to move it will take a lot of extra work re. piping.

In my tiny downstairs toilet, by moving the door to another wall and having that door opening outwards instead of inwards, we were able to create enough space to fit in a shower - wetroom style.
Not enough space for a cubicle.
I fretted for weeks regarding sink pipework as we couldn't channel pipes into wall either.
In reality, there isn't enough room to stand back and gaze at exposed pipes.
Now painted, to match wall, they are not an eyesore - to us anyway!

The tiles need to go in first as they go underneath the toilet.

You can get combined sink and toilet which might save some space.
