Anyone in a HA property?

If so, would you mind telling me how long it took from being offered to actually signing the tenancy and receiving keys? I'm unclear on whether my current experience is the norm (2 months since offer, still no keys) or whether I need to make a complaint over how my case is being handled.

This can be quite normal. Most properties are advertised on notice which can be up to four weeks, and then that is if the tenant actually returns the keys on time.

It then needs to go through a void process, this can be quick but sometimes it can take a number of weeks if it needs quite a bit of work. Some houses are pretty much untouched in terms of improvements so may need re-wire, new kitchen, new bathroom.

It is not complaint worthy, but it is worth ringing on Monday to check what the status is. But I would say that 6-8 weeks is fairly standard.

HA's don't hold onto empty properties for the hell of it as it accumulates void costs and rent loss. There will in all probability be a very simple explanation and not that your case has been mis-handled.

I hope your get signed up and have your keys soon. You might not get much notice at all at that stage.

Thanks for the reply @CactusAndCacti. It's more the complete lack of communication that I'm struggling with. I understand what work needs to be done, it's electrical stuff as the rest of the house is fine, new kitchen etc but they were supposed to update me on this weeks ago and nothing. I called for an update and was told I'd receive a call back in 24 hours- nothing. They're missing the element that my whole life is affected by this! It can't be that awful to just want to know what's going on so I can plan for it financially and logistically but they just don't seem to care.

It isn't great that you haven't had a call back, so will be worth ringing back Monday.

I understand that the move is really important to you, and everything being up in the air is annoying. Moving house is really stressful.

It isn't that they don't care, more that they probably have other, more pressing issues to deal with or are trying to deal with many other things at the same time.

Ring Monday, I'm sure it won't be much longer.
