Got to spend this weekend clearing clutter

This is our bedroom. Dh thinks I should pack away all the books and just put a small ornament on each shelf? I think it’s ok.

Also should I clear off the dressing table?

Looking at your dressing table - it's sort of squashed in there at the bottom of the bed.

Nobody is going to be reassured on seeing a photo of it that they will be able to fit their dressing table in there where yours is.

Not everybody has a dressing table. Yours won't matter to them except to give an offputting impression of a chock a block room.

Some people's dressing tables will be much bigger than yours. Yours will tell them that theirs won't fit.

Surely you wouldn’t bring your own dressing table to a room with fitted wardrobes? Youd keep what was there unless you were gong to replace the entire lot (which a buyer might do) then would have it designed to suit you.

Anyway, the photographer is coming at 9am tomorrow. The house has never looked so tidy.

You might really like your own dressing table. It might suit your height. It might come with an attached mirror. You might have a lamp that fits on it that is flattering. You might have all sorts of little drawers that would fit all your essential stuff. You might have your own comfortable dressing table chair.

You might look at a fitted dressing table and think - If I had to get up in the night I would break my leg trying to get past the dressing table /how much would that cost to take out? You might like the rest of the fitted storage space, though it will have an impact on the size of bed someone will be able to fit into the bedroom initially.

If your dressing table isn't fitted I would seriously think about taking it out at least for photos. It makes the corner of your room look very crowded, especially as there is a door that opens right behind it.

I’m struggling to understand why you’ve asked for advice op? You don’t seem to want it

To be honest if you had that bedroom fitted out 17 years ago I would assume a new buyer may choose to replace everything and so, much better to make it look as spacious as possible. Now I am not saying that things which one has had for 17 years + are not useful and have years of life in them but the bedroom does look a wee bit cluttered and therefore possibly hard for a buyer to see what they would do with it.

@mathanxiety Grin I am not sure I'd be so worried about breaking my leg as to painfully grazing my shins / thigh. It does look a bit like an expletive waiting to happen .

I hope your photographs went well OP

We had the first viewing last night and this morning received an offer of £5k over the asking price so we are very happy.

Although when I say asking price we had set Offers in Excess of so this offer is around the upper end of what we were hoping for.
