Removal company knocked handrail off wall - advice

Hi There,

Any advice on this one much appreciated.

Whilst removing furniture from our old property, the removal company managed to knock a handrail (simple rail, attached to a wall) completely off. In addition to the handrail coming off, damage was caused to the wall immediately adjacent to where the handrails were attached.

The caveat here, is that the handrail was very very slightly loose prior to being knocked off the wall, and would have required some minor adjusting from the original fitter in order to make good.

Does anyone have any advice on where we stand here in terms of whether you think the removal company should be liable for the costs of sorting the wall damage and re-attaching the rail.

The removal company are saying it's nothing to do with them, and the original handrail fitter is reticent to do extra work to re-attach.

I would expect the removal company to cover it with their insurance.

Yes, removal company should pay via their insurance.

Did you take premises protection insurance out with the removal company?
