Replacing worktops - also replace sink?

We are having new worktops in our kitchen as part of a utility build and general refresh. Our existing sink was an expensive one and is still perfectly serviceable. It’s 8 years old. However, builder seems to think that we should get a new sink because the clips that secure it might have stretched. I’m a bit suspect - you can get replacement clips and why throw away a perfectly good sink.

Does anyone have any insight into this? Cheekily paging @PigletJohn in case he has any ideas.

It sounds like it makes no sense to replace it at all. Especially if you can replace the clips if needed.

In our kitchen, we kept an ancient dishwasher. Still very happy with it.

keep it if you want it. But the clips will probably break taking it off the old worktop. Undermount sinks are more likely to be troublesome.

If you are going to want a new sink in the next ten years, the time to do it is when you are changing the worktop.

If you know the brand you might, maybe, be able to get some new clips to match.

Thank you - so we would need the clips to match the sink? I was under the impression they were universal but perhaps not then.

don't know. They are usually supplied with the sink.

If you don't know the make, crawl underneath the old one, look at the clips and photograph them; then crawl around showrooms looking for one to match. Then you can contact the manufacturer or importer.

A wrinkly old plumber might recognise them at first glance.
