Which house?

Both house are within a 2 minute walk of each other... one being on a non busy road, the other being in a cul de sac off that road. Both houses were originally the same style, (3 bed semis,2 double rooms, 1 box room, 2 reception rooms, kitchen) but both have been extended.

Property A .... now 5 bed. So 2 original doubles, plus master suite extension with dressing room and en suite. Plus they have knocked box room through to extension to make a weirdly shaped larger 4th bedroom. They have extended loft to make a huge bedroom plus small 'playroom'
Large garden, no garage, small driveway and parking in the culdesac could be a pain (this could be a problem with a van a car and kids who are reaching teenage age).
Down stairs they have made the original part of house all open plan. Then added a separate living room in the extension. Has toilet and utility downstairs. This house is clearly and extended house that has been a little squished into the plot of land it's on.

House B
Again extended to 5 bed, keeping 2 original doubles and the box and adding to medium sized single rooms above the garage. Has a garage.
Huge beautiful driveway/front garden set back from the road. Huge back garden!
Downstairs they have kept the original small living room, extended the back living room to make it living/dining. Same size kitchen as house A but with a little breakfasting bit. Has downstairs toilet, no utility.
This house looks like it has always been this big, fits on the piece of land perfectly, just looks nicer

Both houses would need about the same amount of decor. House A would need layout of downstairs changing to suit us, probably involving moving the kitchen, some walls. House B would benefit with a small extension (2 walls, 2m each max) just to square kitchen to make it perfect) could take small amount of garage to create a utility room. Could extend into the loft for the larger 5th bed.

House A is 50k cheaper but is a repossession so are wanting 28 day turn around and it could be a nightmare being bank owned... we have only just sold our house this week and are stuck in a small chain so could be a risk. It has only just gone up for sale so negotiations, viewings etc will buy us some time. Also run the risk of bidding wars, final bids etc. So could lose out.
We looked at this house a year ago and then it was taken off the market temporarily, after a few months we gave up and moved on. we were informed it was coming back on the market a few weeks ago and have done everything in our power to get rid of our house just to be in a position to buy this one. The agent contacted us the day we sold ours to arrange a viewing! Really feel like it was meant to be, like it's waited for us for the full year etc. (Silly? Probably)

House B we looked at in May, hadn't sold ours, it sold! I spent weeks and weeks feeling down, sleepless nights, dreaming about this house that was so perfect for us etc (sad I know!)
Couldn't believe that it also came back on the market the day we sold ours! Less risk as straight forward sale, although it is empty and they EA have offered for us to buy the already done searches etc.

Hubby likes house B says it just feels more like a forever house that we won't grow out of it because of drive/garden etc. It feels a bit 'posher'. Feels like a 5 bed house.

House A is £50k cheaper! But does fell more like an extended, slightly squished 3 bed. Has more bells and whistles like utility etc. But loses garage for storage, driveway.

I just don't know what to do!

House B. We were deciding between two houses and my DH nailed it when he said "house A is cheaper but we'll always think "we could have had B" ". We bought B, I still love it and don't intend ever to move. Good luck with the process whichever you decide OP.

Why are you asking?

Presumably you can afford B, so why would you even consider A?

The parking alone would make me avoid A if I could (I live in a cul-de-sac with very limited parking now that many families have two or more cars, and it's a pain. When I moved in it wasn't a problem).

Fate has given you another chance at B, so go for it.

BowiesJumper · 03/09/2019 15:31

I agree, B sounds better to me!

Disfordarkchocolate · 03/09/2019 15:37

House B for me, parking and garden can't be created at house A.

MelanieFrontage · 03/09/2019 17:48

Another vote for house B!

FreyaMountstuart · 03/09/2019 18:18

B!

B

B without a doubt

namechanger0987 · 11/09/2019 10:47

Thank you everyone, we have bought house B.

We went to view A and it was just a mess, needed loads of cosmetic work (which is fine) but also lots of uneven floors etc so we weren't sure what would be unearthed. Also, we found out the house was an ex drug dealers who is now in prison and the neighbours are still getting hassle from people looking for him so that was worrying and then the whole process of buying a repossession just seemed to risky.

The only thing holding us back on house b was the price really but we put in a cheeky offer 20k under asking and she accepted so we are over the moon!

That's great news. I'm over the moon for you, house B sounds so lovely.

Retroraver93 · 11/09/2019 14:05

As my husbands Granny used to say "What's for you won't go by you" and it looks like House B was meant to be yours OP.
So chuffed that they have accepted your offer.
I wish you and your family many happy years in your new home 🍾

was about to say house B sounds much better and you have made the right decision well done

My house is being valued this Monday by a couple of estate agents. I've been told & know from my road sales history that my house will sell very fast. I also have a decent amount of savings to add to my house sale. However, stupidly prematurely, I arranged to view a property today. It was perfect inside & out. Perfectly maintained, beautifully decorated & everything brand new. Great location, street & price. I couldn't believe it. They had numerous other viewings booked today & tomorrow. I informed the owner honestly of my position. She did say that the previous couple who had just viewed before me had sold their property & were in a position to move. But she also said don't let that put me off & to still put in an offer. The house was £230,000 and I offered £240,000. Purplebricks replied the owner is considering my offer. Question is have any of you been in this position & do I stand a chance? This will be my fourth house purchase in 32 years, but I haven't sold for 17 years, so am out of the loop & not up to date re house selling. Thanks very much for all replies.

namechanger0987 · 18/09/2019 16:50

I don't think anyone can answer that really, it is completely up to the seller. The fact you have gone above asking price might be enough for seller to wait for you but if she also finds the house of her dreams then she might want to move quicker. Also, just because they are in a position to move doesn't mean they will want that house.
